Evanora, better known as the Wicked Witch of the East, is the main antagonist of the 2013 Disney fantasy adventure film Oz the Great and Powerful.
She is a power-hungry witch who seeks to rule all of the Land of Oz through manipulative and deceptive schemes with whatever means possible. To do so, Evanora transforms her sister Theodora into a wicked witch just like her and targets Glinda the Good Witch and Oscar Diggs due to being the only ones that can save Oz from them.
She was portrayed by Rachel Weisz.

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
In General/Background[]
- Even if she used to thoroughly reciprocate Theodora's sisterly love she certainly averted it strongly when she cowardly left her sister to fight the powerful (or at least who they thought was powerful) "wizard" of OZ alone.
- While she is shocked by Theodora exclaiming to kill all the Munchkins it's never presented as anything more than being just shock (especially because she was screaming) as she never expresses disgust or even disagrees with Theodora's suggestion of killing all the Muchkins even though Evanora could easily say no since it's her army she' doing this with.
- Theodora was ultimately suggesting something Evanora's already done to multiple towns already for way pettier reasons , so if she really was shocked for moral reasons it would just be hypocritical.
- While she has a few comedic moments, they don't detract from villainy and she is still taken 100% seriously.
- She murdered the king of Oz, Glinda's father, by poisoning him in order to seize the throne.
- She would proceed to destroy many towns and orphan many children.
- After rumors spread about Oz, the wizard the prophecy in the kingdom foreshadowed would come, Evanora has her baboons destroy China Town for celebrating his arrival, leaving nearly all of them dead except for Adeleine Procelain (China girl).
Oz: The Great and Powerful[]
- She tricked Oz into believing that Glinda was the Wicked Witch of the East, nearly causing him to kill an innocent person, which would fortunately backfire in the aftermath as Glinda reveals the truth.
- She began manipulating her sister, Theodora, into believing that Oz lied to and deceived her by telling her that he did the same things to her as he did to Theodora before revealing him with Glinda, causing the latter to run to her room heartbrokenly sobbing in the aftermath.
- While she is right that Oz is a womanizer and he doesn't love Theodora, Theodora is sincerely sure in otherwise, so Evanora's actions were n't motivated by care about Theodora. At least, she had to tell it her in much more peaceful way rather than how she did. Not to mention that the fact that Oscar has a relationship with Glinda was a complete lie.
- She sent her baboons to kill Oz, Glinda, China Girl, and Finley in the meantime.
- She proceeded to corrupt her sister by tricking her into eating an enchanted apple, Theodora actively tried to fight back against the evil of the curse but failed causing her heart to wither away and hence have her darker nature rise straight up to surface level, thus completing her turn to the dark side and joining Evanora to get revenge on Oz. Made worse is that she promised the opposite by claiming her heart would "become impenetrable".
- She's also indirectly the reason her sister dies when Dorothy Gale reaches OZ ,the movie even outright confirms her evil is not her own fault making her death even more unfair.
- Though she was genuinely surprised by Theodora's intensive physical transformation and she had also underestimated Theodora's sheer lack of sanity, nervously muttering "Oh dear" when she started cackling like a textbook mental case, this being after promising to easily subvert her hideous appearance to prove that part was completely unintentional.
- However though this doesn't mean much because she never outright expresses remorse for what she's made her sister into and that "Oh dear" sounded more worrisome (most likely for herself) than remorseful , she only ever offered to subvert her ugliness not the entire curse and Evanora is okay with letting Theodora use her army to do her worst act attempting to slaughter the Munchkins. In short while surprised (maybe even frightened) by her sister's wickedness the movie shows her to ultimately not mind it.
- She attempted to have her baboons slaughter the Munchkins once they arrived at the battle, only to realize it is a trap.
- Upon having her captured and publicly holding Glinda hostage, she began torturing her by electrocuting her with her magical lightning powers after sadistically telling her that she intends to give her a slow and painful death mostly because she was jealous of her "pretty face".
- When it seemed like Oz was abandoning the kingdom, she allowed Theodora to blast the hot air balloon he was escaping in down, mocking his death in the aftermath by stating that he was not so great and powerful after all before announcing to the kingdom of Oz that their prophecy is dead and preparing to finish off Glinda after sadistically telling her to say hello to her father for her.
- She makes one last futile attempt to kill Glinda in the castle by firing several streams of lightning and attempting to strangle her twice, only to be satisfyingly stripped of her youth before fearfully retreating with two of her baboons.
What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]
- She somewhat fails the Heinous Standard of Oz: The Great and Powerful to Theodora as she was originally only intending to drive away the Munchkins from Oz rather than killing them, unlike Theodora who immediately interrupted her speech and declared that they shall massacre them. On the other hand, it was Evanora to make Theodora that evil and Evanora already had a large kill count much before Theodora became evil, while Theodora herself only intended to kill the Munchkins, so it's a minor prevention.

- Evanora is, alongside Nurse Wilson and the Jester, one of the three Oz villains to be Near Pure Evil.
- She is a rare example of a main antagonist of a work, who fails the heinous standards of the work she's in and still to be Near Pure Evil.
