~ Ernesto lying to his wife Beatriz about Ruben/Ruvik being hidden at the basement and his infamous quote.

Ernesto Victoriano is a minor antagonist in The Evil Within.

He is the late patriarch of the Victoriano Family and the husband of Beatriz, as well as the father of both Ruben (later known as Ruvik) and Laura Victoriano. While he is only referred through audio logs, flashbacks, and documents that Sebastian can get, Ernesto is heavily responsible for molding Ruvik's current personality due to his abusive treatment of him after the barn fire where he locked his own son underneath the basement of their estate. He is also responsible for the death of Laura after he left her at the hospital.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close To Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Bought off lands from villagers with his wife, which caused them to be angry towards the Victoriano family. This would eventually escalate with them targetting both Ruben and Laura, who were playing at the barn, leading to the infamous barn fire that horribly disfigured Ruben and badly wounded Laura. Due to his actions, he is ultimately responsible for traumatising Ruben and Laura.
  • Imprisoned and abused the horribly burnt Ruben to the estate's basement for the next few years, which would eventually lead to his son having his mental state rapidly shattered. He also willingly lied to his wife that there was nothing down there at the basement. Due to his actions, he is majorly responsible for causing Ruvik to become the murderous psychopath he is in the present time.
  • Abandoned the critically injured Laura, who was a vegetable, after deeming her as unsightly, leading to her eventual death.
  • While he started off as a rough but caring father for his children, he sheds this along with all of his redeeming qualities after the barn fire.
  • His death at the hands of his own son was not played for sympathy.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Evil?[]

  • While he passes the series' baseline, he fails the in-story heinous standard to his son Ruben/Ruvik, as he has the same resources as his son, with him committing far worse crimes including torture, psychological manipulation, and turning the people of STEM into Haunted. But given that Ernesto is primarily responsible for Ruvik's descent to villainy and how his actions were impactful, this is not too much of a prevention.

Trivia[]

  • He is one of the two The Evil Within villains to be Near Pure Evil alongside Samuel Dista.
    • Ironically, his son was once Near Pure Evil, which was removed due to his too tragic past, something that Ernesto played a hand with.
