Enrico Pucci is the main antagonist of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean.
He is a priest working at the chapel in Green Dolphin State Prison, and the right-hand man and, seemingly, best friend of DIO, who wished to continue his plans of achieving “heaven” and to eradicate the Joestar Bloodline. He is also the arch-nemesis of Jolyne Cujoh, Weather Report, and Emporio Alniño.
He is voiced by Tomokazu Seki in the anime. In the English dub, he is voiced by Yong Yea. The former also voiced Rob Lucci in One Piece.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- Even if he had genuinely believe his goal would benefit humanity, his desire of wanting everyone to know of their true fates would ultimately destroy the very concept of free will. Furthermore, this is even proven by the fact that he will be able to control those fates once he makes Heaven, making himself almighty, showing he is quite arrogant in his goal.
- Despite the high heinous standards of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, he easily passes them for having one of the highest confirmed kill counts, plus trying to reset the universe, and partially succeeding. He also stands out for being one of the only two main villains of the series (alongside his master, Dio) to have successfully killed the protagonist of their part as well as being half-successful in attaining his goal.
- Though he has a few comedic moments, such as interrupting Miraschon's question just to show off his technique of eating cherries, using a disc from Whitesnake to play "Messiah" on one of his minions as though they were a CD player, or complaining about the raining frogs from Weather Report's stand getting on his $800 pants, all these moments are too brief to be detracting, and he is still taken seriously in-universe.
- What's more, as the plot moves on, he loses all his (already few) laughably evil presence in later arcs, and is taken dead seriously both in-universe and by narrative.
- While he looks like he has some slight standards against Donatello Versus' cruelty, as he looks disturbed when he drops three sick kids on a plane where there would be only two survivors, he only said "But I saw three children, that one is too many", meaning he is criticizing on the redundant number of the kids instead of the act itself. The fact that he didn't do anything to stop Versus doesn't help.
- He also tried to murder Emporio, a child later on in the story, making him subverting every standards he had for it after all.
Background[]
- He accidentally caused his brother Weather Report to get lynched by the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) due to trying to get him and Perla to break up, and also caused his sister Perla to commit suicide. While this was accidental, and he felt distraught over causing Perla’s death, he didn’t feel remorse over the lynching of his brother, as he later aims to kill him.
- Took Weather Report’s memory disc to make him amnesiac and threw him in prison in order for him not to get in the way of his goals, and while he does try saying he wanted to find a way to save him, it is later subverted when he murders Weather Report.
- Joined DIO's side willingly and became a devoted member amongst his agents, not caring about the causalities DIO would cause and after his death, decided to pick up his plans again of achieving Heaven. Whether or not Pucci was ever aware of DIO's manipulative nature, he still performed his heinous actions under DIO's name.
Stone Ocean[]
- He worked with Johngalli A. and framed Jolyne for murder, using a corrupt judge and lawyer to get her 15 years in prison.
- Murdered Emporio’s mother while she was in prison to obtain her stand, rendering Emporio alone and presumably orphaned.
- During Jolyne and Jotaro's battle with Johngalli A. he used Whitesnake to steal his memory and stand disc, rendering Jotaro effectively brain dead. He made sure that Jotaro would waste his time stop in saving his daughter so that Whitesnake could sneak up from behind.
- Killed Johngalli A only because he fulfilled his task and had no use for him, despite Johngalli A being loyal to him and DIO.
- Gave several mercenaries (Thunder McQueen, Miraschon, Foo Fighters, and Lang Wrangler) stand discs and sent them to murder Jolyne and the others in order to get the stand disc back.
- Emotionally abused Thunder McQueen in order to have him become suicidal, so that any self harm he inflicts gets transferred to Ermes as a means to kill her.
- Beat up Miraschon simply because she tried to steal his cross necklace.
- Had Jolyne shot by a prison guard who had a memory disc in order to murder her once and for all.
- During Weather Report’s poison dart frog raining, showed no concern when the guard he brainwashed had painfully died from the poison.
- When another prison guard hesitated to let him out due to the dart frogs, Pucci smashed one to blind him and after the prison guard let him out, left him to die from the prison out of spite.
- Tries to shoot down a bird so it wouldn’t take Jotaro’s stand disc back to him.
- Gave a stand disc to Sports Maxx, the killer of Ermes' sister, to kill Jolyne and the group, causing Ermes to be out of commission, a woman dying, and Jolyne to be sent to the lower prison ward.
- He threatens to kill Sports Maxx for not knowing where DIO’s bone had disappeared to.
- Gave 3 other prisoners, Guccio, Kenzou, D an G and a prison guard named Viviano stands while they were in the lower prison ward in order to cause a giant fight with Guccio’s stand, in order to have Jolyne killed. This caused over 36 prisoners to be killed by Kenzo via lung drowning, and had them all turned into trees in order to form the Green Baby.
- Murdered Foo Fighters and brutally maimed Anasui, attempting to destroy Jotaro’s memory disc in order get to The Green Baby and fuse with it by using DIO's bone. He then forces Jolyne to choose between letting Pucci escape to save Jotaro’s disc or kill Pucci and abandon Jotaro’s life.
- After fusing with the Green Baby, travels out to go to Kennedy Space Center in order to release his plan of Heaven. By doing so, he corrupted the Joestar Bloodline due to the fact that DIO's bone was actually from Jonathan Joestar's body, causing him and Weather Report to receive the Joestar birthmark.
- He deserts Green Dolphin Street Prison after seeing no further use for it.
- He awakens dead baby chicks within a woman’s grocery eggs for no apparent reason (though this was likely unintentional, as he wasn't thinking straight at the time due to just fusing with the Green Baby).
- Manipulated and took in DIO's sons (Ungalo, Rikiel, and Donatello) to order them to kill the Joestar group, their own family. This caused Ungalo release Bohemian Rhapsody, which caused mass havoc across the world.
- Brutally ripped off both of Weather Report's legs and impaled him, completely destroying any amount of care he had for him.
- Used Donatello as a human shield in order to get him caught and for him to get away, which also subverts any care he had for Donatello (or any of DIO’s sons).
- When at Kennedy Space Center, released C-Moon, which caused the large entire area to mess with gravity, sending people, cars, trees, and rubble to be sent flying around, which caused a massive amount of deaths, destruction, and injury, causing the deaths of around two thousand people and countless more injured.
- Almost killed Jolyne by punching her chest to invert her heart with C-Moon, although she saved herself by turning her inverted heart into a Möbius Strip with her stand.
- When unlocking Made in Heaven and it’s ability of time acceleration, he caused mass havoc all over the world, including a freezer boy getting frozen to death, a woman getting hit by a speeding car, and massive amounts of car crashes which caused others' deaths.
- Quickly murdered Anasui by using Stone Free to impale him.
- Threw knives at Jolyne before Jotaro used time stop in order for him to waste the time stop to save Jolyne. This caused Jotaro to scream a scream of utter despair from PTSD since DIO did the same to him back in Stardust Crusaders, thus destroying any chance that the heroes had at killing Pucci.
- Mocked Jotaro by stating that his greatest weakness is his own daughter before killing him.
- Murdered Jotaro and Ermes in quick succession by slicing Ermes’s arms off and cutting Jotaro’s face in half in front of Jolyne and Emporio, killing off all of Jolyne’s friends and father in a quick succession, before taunting Emporio about his mother’s death and attempting to kill him.
- When Jolyne stayed behind to give Emporio time to flee, he brutally killed her, effectively ending the Joestar bloodline in a way.
- Using the acceleration to completely reset the universe, planning on using the reset and make everyone remember their past and acknowledge their future to give them peace and solace, only stopping half way through to Green Dolphin Prison in order to kill Emporio for him not to interfere.
- Once he arrives to the new universe, he knocks out the reincarnated variants of Jotaro and Jolyne out of spite, and he even knocks out a few prison guards for merely passing by.
- Taunts Emporio about the deaths of his friends before chasing him through the prison and attempting to kill him one last time to cut off all loose ends.
- While he had a slow and brutal demise at the hands of Emporio and Weather Report which is often considered the most brutal death in the franchise, this doesn't make him a scapegoat, as he deserved it for the tragedies he had caused.
- Despite his death and the timeline being reverted, it holds weight as everyone who died during the timeline reset, including Jolyne, Jotaro, Ermes, Anausi, and Weather Report, will be reborn as technically different people. Additionally, Emporio will be traumatized by the event as he is the only person to know what happened, with him breaking down in tears when he sees his friends' reincarnated versions.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He has a tragic backstory of causing the death of his sister Perla by unwittingly sending the Ku Klux Klan against Weather Report to break the two up, and caused her to commit suicide, which partially motivated him to join DIO's side.
- Unlike DIO, who wanted to achieve Heaven only to rule over all humanity as the self-proclaimed god of all existence, Pucci is a well-intentioned extremist as his goal of creating a new universe is to have everyone know their fates, take solace in them, and reach “true happiness”, regardless of how arrogant he becomes in this belief. The havoc caused when time accelerates to the reset, while large-scale and horrific, is seen by him as a necessary act, since it will allow humanity, in his opinion, to be truly happy. Also, during his final fight with Emporio, he states he would kill Emporio for "the sake of all humanity".
- He has two people that he genuinely cares about, with his care for them never being subverted in any way no matter how heinous he became:
- The first is his sister Perla, who he genuinely loves. Pucci was devastated by her death and clutched her body while crying, blaming himself for causing her fate. Pucci's desperate search for answers in the wake of Perla's death even caused him to go down the route of being a villain and joining DIO.
- The second is DIO, who he is loyal to and has a genuine friendship with, with his entire goal being to fulfill DIO's ambition of attaining Heaven on Earth. While stealing Jotaro's memories was necessary for his plan, he stated that he simply stole Jotaro's stand to avenge DIO, showing that he still remains devoted to him even after his death.
Trivia[]
- He, along with Yoshikage Kira, Kars, and Funny Valentine, are the only main antagonists in their respective parts to be Near Pure Evil.
