People don’t fear god. Fear itself is god.
~ Enel speaking to Wyper after restarting his heart.

Enel is the main antagonist of the Skypiea arc from One Piece. He was a former resident of Birka, before destroying the island. Prior to his defeat, he was the former tyrannical "God" of Skypiea until his defeat by Monkey D. Luffy where he left to go to the Moon. He is the current ruler of the Moon.

He is voiced by Toshiyuki Morikawa (who also voiced Bellion, Lord Boros, Mard Geer Tartaros, Sephiroth and Yoshikage Kira) and by J. Michael Tatum in the English dub.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • It was stated that Enel destroyed his home country, Birka, and killed all of its residents.
  • He traveled to another sky island and took over, dethroning Gan Fall and becoming the island's new "God" in the process.
  • He enslaved Gan fall's army into building the Ark Maxim, a ship which was built for the sole purpose of getting to the moon after destroying Skypiea.
  • He killed a person for trespassing his territory by striking him with a large lightning bolt.
  • He killed anybody who spoke ill of him by striking them with a pillar of lightning.
  • He eliminated the divine squad when they rebelled against his idea to destroy Skypiea.
  • When the Shandian warriors, the Straw Hats and his own army start fighting, he sadistically claims that only 5 people would survive.
  • Showed no regard to any of his priests when he learned they were defeated, instead laughing upon hearing the news.
  • Attempted to kill Conis by striking her with a column of lightning for revealing the plan to bring Luffy and his crew to the sacrificial Altar.
  • He attacks and almost kills Kamakiri and another Shandian warrior.
  • He attempts to strike down the Giant Jack in order to destroy the upper yard, endangering the lives of Shandian warriors, the Straw Hats, and even his own army.
  • While he did offer to have Nico Robin, Gan Fall, Zoro and Wyper become his new priests, this was only for pragmatic reasons.
  • He mocks Gan Fall over the enslavement and deaths of his army in order to bait Gan Fall into attacking him, which allows Enel to try kill Gan Fall.
  • He tries to kill Nico Robin, Zoro and Wyper for defying him.
  • While he does take Nami onto the ship with him, he is willing to abandon her later on.
  • Attempted to destroy the entirety of Skypiea with his attack "Deathpiea," endangering many innocent lives, because of his delusional worldview that, humans aren’t supposed to live in the sky, and that birds should be there, and that gods like him, should be in space. He was very close in achieving this since he was successful in destroying angel island, the only location that remained in Skypiea was upper yard.
  • While his over-the-top reactions are funny, as he made his iconic face, he is still taken seriously. In fact, he becomes as much of a threat even after the iconic scene.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Upon arriving at the moon, Enel revives a robot army. He originally intended to kill the robots, however, he unknowingly recharged them. Later on, he became somewhat affectionate towards them when they proclaimed him as their new leader.
