Emperor Percival Tachyon! Crown prince of the Cragmites, conqueror of space and time, and, pending the obliteration of a few insubordinate species, ruler of the universe!
~ Emperor Tachyon introducing himself.
Typical Lombax... so noble, so courageous, and so very dead!
~ Tachyon before he proceeds to fight Ratchet.

Emperor Percival Tachyon is the overarching antagonist of the Ratchet and Clank franchise, being the main antagonist of Tools of Destruction, as well as the overarching antagonist of the original continuity, the rest of the Future Saga and the Comic Series. He is also mentioned in All 4 One and Into the Nexus.

He is a Cragmite who leads his Imperial Army which managed to conquer a majority of the Polaris Galaxy and has a xenophobic vendetta against the Lombaxes for defeating his species, despite being raised by them.

He was voiced by Andy Morris.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Upon learning about the origin of his species, the Cragmites, he started to develop a massive hatred against the Lombaxes for their actions and desired to have them all destroyed.
  • Created the Space Pirates to gather multiple technologies across the galaxy that he would use for himself, then later betrayed them after he had enough resources, as they would now be superfluous to him.
  • Presented ideas for technologies to the Lombaxes that were light years beyond what the latters used. When Alister Azimuth gave him access, he then used those technologies to develop machines that would be used against the Lombaxes.
  • Created his Imperial Army with the help of the Drophyd race, which Tachyon aided by giving them powerful battle suits.
  • Committed genocide on the Lombaxes in Fastoon along with his Imperial Army, which included Ratchet's mother. This also made the surviving Lombaxes, with the exception of Kaden, an infant Ratchet, Alister Azimuth and presumably Angela Cross, seek refuge using their Dimensionator.
  • His attack also caused Ratchet's displacement as he was sent to the Solana Galaxy by Kaden, which is what kickstarted the stories of the franchise.
  • Conquered a majority of the Polaris Galaxy and became the territory's Authoritarian tyrant and oppressing the inhabitants in many ways such as:
    • Imprisoning them in Zordoom, where they would be tortured and executed, even for the most petty reasons such as mocking his name or height, whilst denying any parole. This also applies to his soldiers.
    • Committing mass murders on the conquered planets.
    • Having a daily holiday dedicated to worshipping him, with harsh punishments to anyone who didn't follow that day.
    • Putting prisoners in tournament fights to entertain his army.
  • Tachyon also had plans to conquer the entire universe and later on other dimensions after supposedly conquering the Galaxy, which would cause an immense amount of devastation.
  • Spreads propaganda across a majority of the galaxy that state that Lombaxes are "dreadful" creatures that pose as threats to security.
  • As part of hunting down the remaining Lombaxes, he killed Ratchet's father Kaden.
  • After the events of Going Commando, he presumably would've hunted down Angela Cross in the Bogon Galaxy.
  • Invaded Metropolis in the Kerwan planet to search for Ratchet, recklessly causing massive damage to the city that would endanger many people, and even threatened to destroy it if Ratchet did not surrender.
  • Used Captain Qwark as a puppet for his propaganda and made him unwillingly do lots of undesirable tasks.
  • Searched for the Dimensionator throughout the Polaris Galaxy, even racing against Ratchet, Clank and their allies, while also making a propaganda advertisement that attempts to recruit troops for the Imperial Army to aid him, even demanding total bloodshed on the conquest.
  • During an Imperial Fight Festival event, he had his Drophyd Enforcers cock their guns out to make the audience be motivated and cheer for him.
  • After obtaining said device in Reepor, he managed to bring back the Cragmites to the Galaxy.
  • Still expanded his empire to places such as Igliak's Meridian City and Fastoon.
  • Used broadcasts to advertise his Imperial Army and gloat about his species' return.
  • Constantly taunted about the Lombaxes' weakness to Ratchet when being tracked down.
  • Confronted Ratchet, Clank and their allies in the Court of Azimuth, explaining the Lombaxes' refuge to another dimension and even taunting about how he took pleasure in killing Ratchet's father.
  • Attempts to kill Ratchet and Clank when the latter declined the offer to reunite with the Lombax refugees, even though nobody would be safe from him, also taunting him by stating that much like a typical Lombax, he is "So very dead".
  • Attempts to kill the two once more after they all get banished into a different dimension.
  • Before being banished into Dimension A2-66, he exclaims to Ratchet that the Cragmite return is inevitable and that his kind will never be safe.
  • In the Comic Series, after Artemis Zogg gets banished to the same dimension that Tachyon got banished into, the two argue over which planet fragment they should rule over.
  • He's also been implied to have made contacts with a forgotten species, which he may likely use for malicious purposes.
  • His actions indirectly caused Alister Azimuth's exile which drove him into his villainy at the end of A Crack in Time, and to an extent, his death.
  • Overall, he stands out as one of the most heinous villains in the franchise not only because he threatened multiple universes, but also stands out as a personal villain to Ratchet and has crossed the highest amount of Moral Event Horizons.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He has comedic moments where he isn't played seriously, such as when he interrupts embarassed by his maniacal laughter, when he has difficulty piloting his imperial warship, having his name been made fun of and the Dimensionator not functioning the way Tachyon wants it to. However, these moments are not too frequent and A Crack in Time plays him in a much more serious tone, alongside his crimes in general, so this is a minor prevention.
  • He cares for his own kind as he has a goal of bringing them back and the reason he has a vendetta against the Lombaxes is because they defeated his species through exiling them. In addition, he was very oblivious of the true nature of his species.
  • He has moral agency issues as Cragmites appear to be inherently evil as a species, there are no good cragmites and even as a child before learning of his origins, it was implied Tachyon was still evil due to his cragmite blood.

Trivia[]

  • He and Stuart Zurgo are the only Ratchet and Clank Near Pure Evils.
