Damaras... Warz Gill will be made commander of the second Earth invasion armada. Although we may have been repelled once, the so-called “Super Sentai” that acted as Earth’s defenders are gone. Furthermore, Damaras... I place you in charge of Warz Gill's welfare. Conquering the Earth should be a simple matter, with you serving him. Am I wrong?
~ Ackdos Gill’s first (chronological) words to Damaras via a flashback before the invasion of Earth.

Emperor Ackdos Gill was the Emperor of the Zangyack Empire, the father of Warz Gill, and uncle of Bacchus Gill. He was the main antagonist of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. Mentioned from the start of the series, he makes a few small appearances (On the Zagin notes in episode 41 and a flashback in episode 37) before finally appearing in person in episode 41 to take charge after his son's death.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • While he comes from a lineage of past Zangyack emperors as revealed in Zyuohger through Gokdos Gill, the atrocities of the Zangyack mostly occured under his rule, so this doesn't make him a scapegoat or a Villain by Proxy. Also, not much is known about the previous emperors to compare him too.
  • While more benevolent to his Imperial Guards than his other subordinates, it's never made clear if he genuinely cares about them or just sees them as loyal servants.
  • His relationship with his nephew Bacchus Gill is never explored enough to be a redeeming quality unlike his son.
  • Unlike his son, he has no comedic moments and is played deadly serious every time he appears. (even Pure Evil Basco had some comedic moments, though not enough to detract from his heinousness) The moment he takes control of the invasion force, the series becomes less lighthearted and the Zangyack has less humor coming from them.
  • While Basco is the more emotional and personal enemy, Ackdos Gill is still has a big impact on the series and the heroes and he sets the heinous standard for the season.

Gokaiger[]

  • Under his rule, he conquered and destroyed untold numbers of planets across the cosmos in his bid to rule the whole universe. It is not off-screen villainy since we see flashbacks which see the aftermath of several of their conquests, survivors from said planets, and the fact that all 5 core Gokaigers came from planets they destroyed. (We see Ahim's homeworld destroyed and her parents murdered onscreen by one of the emperor's own guards) He clearly has one of the highest body counts in the whole series, far surpassing Pure Evil Basco's. (We only see him commit one onscreen murder)
  • The empire itself doesn't fare much better since we see Joe's past as a Zangyack member, a past which he underwent a long training of abuse and his squad is forced to execute a group of children (and his refusal to do so leads to him being imprisoned with a fatal shock collar).
  • Ordered his forces to attack Earth. We see the devastation of the attack in the first few minutes of the series. The resulting war between the Zangyack and the Super Sentai forces ends with them having to sacrifice their powers to destroy the fleet. Prior to this, there was a Mecha battle in which most of them are destroyed (killed in the case of sentient ones) or damaged in the fight. In episode 9, we see the Gao Lion alone on the island and initially hostile until the Gokaigers prove themselves to him, indicating Ackdos' impact of the story.
  • Learning about the loss of the Super Sentai powers, he takes advantage of it by sending out a second invasion fleet led by his son, which is smaller but still sizable. Had the Gokaigers not just happened to be going to Earth, it would've been an easier and more successful one.
  • Sends one of his own guards to attack after continuous failures. Said guard gives the Gokaigers the hardest time thus far. He then sends out a deadly mecha: The Great Warz to finish the job.
  • After Warz's death, he destroys the entire fleet of Zangyack ships surrounding the Gigant Horse in order to replace with his own ships. Once he takes over the fleet, he imprisons Damaras after ordering his bodyguards to hurt him for his failure. While it shows how much he loves his son, this action was beyond fair since he ignores that Warz went on his own and refused Damaras's pleas not to. He does later agree with Insarn's plea to give him another chance, it is only after the monster who destroyed Famille is killed and his ground troops aren't working against the Gokaigers. When Damaras is killed, he is less concerned about his actual death and more that he may have underestimated the space pirates.
  • Approved of Makuu Prison Warden Ashurada's plan to consume Earth with the Makuu Space and his torture of Gavan to make it happen. The prison shows that he and the Zangyack consider villains turning to good to be a crime, as we see redeemed Sentai villains in the prison for exactly that.
  • He finally decides to call all the available Zangyack reinforcements in one final attack on Earth which is even greater than the one that attacked in the first invasion, seeking to kill the Gokaigers and execute planetary genocide.
  • He manipulates Insarn into going on a suicide mission to weaken the Gokaigers and buy time for the reinforcements to arrive.
  • When Gokaioh and the mecha they received is formed to deal with the fleet, he lets them destroy the first wave and then use the second wave to destroy them, including GokaiOh and the Gokai Galleon (their home), which only gets repaired a year after his death.
  • Ackdos decides to prolong the suffering of the Earth's people by giving them one more day to live before the fleet comes back to finish them all.
  • Tries killing Marvelous and Gai when they storm into the Gigant Horse, declaring that it would be their tomb.
  • Surviving the destruction of the Gigant Horse, he makes one last attempt to kill the Gokaigers, requiring them to use all their Super Sentai powers and point the Gokai Galleon buster at point blank range to put him down for good.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He ultimately and genuinely loves his son Warz Gill, in spite of the people of his homeworld's poor view on Warz's Imperial status compared to him. He sent Damaras to be Warz's second in command in order to protect him from harm and according to Warz in episode 11, his father never hit him. The mecha he sent was modeled after his son's appearance and has the face on his chest. He is clearly upset and angry at the Gokaigers partly for killing his son (to the point where Marvelous is given the Unlimited Reward bounty) and those that failed to safe-keep him. He even has a memorial portrait of him placed on the throne room in the Gigant Horse and vows to make taking over Earth (which he is going to anyway) in memory of him.

Trivia[]

  • He is one of only two Near Pure Evils in Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, the other being his guardsman Zatsurig.
