Ellen Mira Mathers is the secondary antagonist of the light novel and anime franchise Date A Live, serving as one of the main antagonists of Date A Live II, and the main protagonist of Date A Live Encore 2: Ellen Mathers's Strongest Day. She was commonly referred to as "The World's Strongest Wizard" and "Adeptus 1" and was the secretary of Deus.Ex.Machina Industries's director Isaac Ray Peram Westcott, along with her position as one of the company's Chief Executives.

Ellen is voiced by Shizuka Ito in Japanese and Trina Nishimura in English.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She, Westcott, Karen, and Elliot were responsible for the creation of Mio, the first Spirit, an event that also resulted in the First Spacequake that destroyed most of Eurasia and caused the deaths of millions of people.
  • Capturing Nia for DEM and putting her through brutal torture for 5 years with Westcott's help in order to forcibly have her revert to her Inverse Form.
  • Ordering the Arbatel to attack and capture Tohka during a fight between the Yamai twins before going to fight Tohka herself. And upon easily defeating her, Ellen and D.E.M. were quick to try and capture her before Shido retaliated.
  • Killing Shido in front of Tohka under Westcott's orders, which caused her to revert to her Inverse Form.
  • Trying to capture Natsumi with the help of the Wizards to subject her to the same torture she and Westcott had previously used on Nia in an attempt to cause her to also go in Inverse Form.
  • Threatening to cut Shido's ear off when he refused to hand Natsumi over to her and D.E.M.
  • While she does redeem herself at the end of the series and become a physics teacher at Raizen High School, this wasn't done because she had any true will to change, but rather because her memories of Westcott and D.E.M. had been permanently removed.
  • While what Westcott did was worse, it wouldn't be fair to compare Ellen to him since he has more resources (as well as multiple unique to him and him alone) than any other villain in the series.
  • Despite she had a comedic moment, where Shido, when he wasn't on his senses, flirts with her and causing her to blush, and she comically yells that he will pay for what he did to her, this moment does not detract her from her villainy.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She cares deeply for Westcott, sticking by his side no matter what and being willing to do whatever it takes to protect him when the going gets rough.
  • She has a genuine tragedy, as she and her sister Karen grew up as mages in a town full of people with similar powers before their home was burned down by humans who were paranoid about Ellen and her people because of their magic. This event is also what caused Ellen to side with Westcott in his pursuit to create a new world inhabited purely by mages.

Trivia[]

  • She's currently the only Date A Live villain to be Near Pure Evil.
