Ellen is the titular main protagonist of the 2012 RPG maker horror video game The Witch's House and its manga spinoff The Witch's House: The Diary of Ellen. By the end of the game, we learn that in order for Ellen to escape her ill body, she tricks Viola into swapping bodies with her, which permanently traps Viola in Ellen's body, and allows Ellen to live in Viola's healthy body.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She sadistically murdered people for centuries.
  • She murdered her own parents when she learned her mother was about to leave her.
  • She let a demon eat innocent souls and trapped their ghosts in the house for eternity.
  • While she asked the Black Cat if it was a lie that witches couldn't die, she only asked that because she was afraid of death and wanted to confirm it.
    • Even if there was a bit of remorse in her, she subverted it when she cowardly threw away the bottle of despair, which is able to kill her.
  • She betrayed Viola and stole her body, even after all the kind things Viola had done for her.
  • She gouged out her own eyes and chopped off her own legs, and kept the injuries hidden in order to trick Viola into consenting into the body swap spell.
  • She burnt Viola's throat and forced her to endure all the pain just because she was annoyed by her screams.
  • While she did rescue a butterfly and retrieve a ring for a living statue of a woman, it was only so she could progress through the house and not out of the goodness of her heart.
  • She forcefully fed a friendly frog to a giant snake in order to get past it after the frog had done nothing but help her, and she later poisoned the lake his tadpole children were in, killing them as well. While she needed to get past the snake and wash shoes in the river, she didn't make any attempts to simply open the door to the snake room and lure it out to run past it or throw the cat demon into the room to feed it instead, nor did she try to remove the tadpoles from the river before washing the shoes and poisoning it.
  • She killed a friendly sapient flower to advance through the house.
  • She hacked off the limbs of a living teddy bear to get it to fit in a basket.
  • She sadistically mocked Viola when they finally confronted each other.
  • She is shown to enjoy doing sadistic things.
  • She got Viola killed by her own father, even finding it amusing.
  • Her relationship with her surrogate mother is left ambiguous, besides their first meeting, so it's unknown if she cares for her or just listening to her so she could get her cure.
  • She has no redeeming qualities except for being tragic.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Her backstory is very tragic. She lived with an incurable illness that caused her a lot of pain. She was also neglected by her father and her mother, who planned on leaving her behind. She was then manipulated into a fate worse than death by The Black Cat at her lowest point to do his bidding. This explains the motive she desires for a healthy body and a loving family.
    • She genuinely cried when she finally got Viola's body, a body worthy of love.
    • However, her tragedy is a minor prevention since her victim Viola has absolutely nothing to do with her tragedy, and Ellen chooses to continue to torture Viola even after getting her healthy body out of sheer envy and pettiness.
      • What makes it even worse is that Viola gave her everything she ever wanted in a loving family and even wanted to redeem her after everything Ellen has done to her.
