| “ | Now, the world shall be my plaything! I shall bring about an age of fear and chaos! And it shall be glorious! | „ |
| ~ Doctor Eggman Nega's most famous quote. |
| “ | Heh heh heh... I'm here to change my destiny! I come from a long line of brilliant scientists, but that lineage was disrupted with Dr. Eggman's failures! As a result, I have been denied my destiny as the world has refused to recognize my brilliance! So by removing Dr. Eggman's life and failed attempts at success, I will alter our family history forever! | „ |
| ~ Doctor Eggman Nega. |
Eggman Nega is a major antagonist in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
He is Dr. Eggman's descendant from approximately 200 years into the future who seeks nothing but destruction of the world, holding a grudge against his ancestor for tarnishing their family's legacy due to losing to Sonic many times, and is the arch-nemesis of Silver the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat.
Like his ancestor, he was voiced by the late Chikao Ohtsuka in Japanese and Mike Pollock in English.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Unlike his ancestor, who can be comical on some occasions and has some moments of humanity like sympathetic insecurities and care for several people, he is taken completely seriously (even by Sonic, who is known to banter with his foes), with almost no comedic moments (even the ones he has don't detract from his threat) and without any redeeming qualities.
- He serves as a personal villain to both Blaze the Cat and Silver the Hedgehog.
- He let Eggman steal the Sol Emeralds from Blaze's world, aware of the disastrous consequences that may follow. During this scene, Nega also implied that he's been using Eggman.
- He confessed that he didn't care what would happen to Blaze's world as long as his goals are achieved.
- He gloated to Blaze that he would kill her family and wipe her kingdom off the face of the planet.
- Due to Blaze’s condition as well as the relevance in story, many of his worst deeds don’t count as off-screen villainy.
- He attempted to use the Planet-Buster Laser to kill Sonic and Blaze and destroy the world, unaware or uncaring that he would die too. Even Eggman himself was against the idea and demanded him to not go through with the act.
- He turned Eggman, Amy, Tails, and Rouge, as either of the Sonic Rivals playable characters' story implies several other people into cards.
- He constantly went back on his promises to Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow, and Silver when they managed to beat his challenges, only giving up his cards when forced to.
- While he tries to justify his actions by claiming that the people of his time refused to acknowledge him due to Eggman's failures ruining their family name, this is too petty to make him tragic and is never played for sympathy, as Shadow states at one point that he only blames the past for his own mistakes (implying Eggman Nega actually has made similar failures as Eggman), further displaying his own hypocrisy.
- His justification is even more hypocritical since he actually contributes to Eggman's infamy in the two instances he impersonated him, as the side that remained unaware of this consisted of Eggman's foremost enemies, meaning everyone generally believed Eggman was the culprit while none the wiser of Nega's presence.
- He attempted to turn the entire planet into a card and, to give his camera enough energy to do so, he wanted to transfer energy to it from Amy's, Rouge's and the Master Emerald's cards. While it's not made clear if the process would kill those trapped in cards, it's implied to be the case by Tails' words right before the final boss battle.
- He attempted to erase Eggman from existence to “restore” his own reputation and alter the timeline. What makes this even worse is their shared ancestry.
- He attempted to release the Ifrit into Sonic's world so that it will be left in ruin (he actually succeeds in this in the unaltered timeline).
- He kidnapped multiple Chao to feed them to the Ifrit.
- He tricked Rouge into finding the Chaos Emeralds for him.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Despite having a unique crime of having tried to destroy two worlds instead of one unlike most other municipal Sonic villains, as well as being taken completely seriously without any redeeming qualities, he still fails the Heinous Standards to his ancestor Dr. Eggman, who pulled the same acts he did alongside many more individual acts such as enslaving the Wisps, nearly rewriting time itself (which would have destroyed all of reality in the present due to a time paradox), planning to drop a virtual sun on the earth, and unleashing the Metal Virus on Earth (thereby putting people in fates worse than death).
Trivia[]
- Ironically, his ancestor, used to be IH (which made him seem more humane compared to Nega), until the canonization of the IDW comics, him being On & Off was only done to cheat his way to victory, and the fact he pulled off a bait and switch on having standards against omnicide, making it look like he didn’t have them. Eggman then became consistent enough to be NPE like Nega. What really sets them apart is Eggman has a far more rational mindset than Nega and shows significant redeeming qualities.
- His counterpart in the Mario and Sonic series can’t qualify as NPE due to being On & Off by helping Luigi Talis and Bowser jr try to get the hero's out of the virtual world as well as partaking in the events for no pragmatic reason.
