The Bug, also known as Edgar the Bug, is the main antagonist of the 1997 sci-fi action comedy film Men in Black.
He is an interstellar terrorist in search of the Arquillian Galaxy, and his actual appearance is that of a giant cockroach. He does not like it when any bug, especially cockroaches, is killed.
He was portrayed and voiced by Vincent D'Onofrio.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- His plan is to instigate a war between the humans and the Arquillians, to ensure the extinction of both species.
- To do so, he murdered multiple people/aliens as a false flag operation to initiate the war.
- He stole the skin of a rural man to put on himself, and he also ate what was left, although he deserved as that man was not only abusive to his wife, but to other people as well.
- To do so, he murdered multiple people/aliens as a false flag operation to initiate the war.
- While other villains such as Boris the Animal and Serleena had attempted to perpetrate acts as catastrophic as Edgar, they had more resources than him and he still stood out due to the brutal methods of some of his murders.
- Although he had some comedic scenes, they are not really preventive since there are only due to the use of Edgar's skin, and his attempted genocide as well as his murders are taken seriously.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He had quite a fondness for insects, which can be seen in how when a human tried to kill a cockroach, he got angry and usually killed them. His care also seemed to extend to other bugs and even arachnids, affirming this. This is exactly how Agent J managed to distract Edgar and angered him enough to get his attention.
- He is disgusted with Agent J's brazen womanizing and is later understandably so over their primitive Gender Squabbling.
- He had a rare Pet the Dog moment that the only human he spared in the movie is Edgar’s former wife Beatrice as he had no grudge on her.
Trivia[]
- He is the only villain in the Men in Black franchise to be Near Pure Evil.
