~ Lemongrab's most famous quote. |
Lemongrab, also known as the Earl of Lemongrab, is a major antagonist of the Cartoon Network show Adventure Time, who serves as a major antagonist in both Seasons 3 and 4 and the main antagonist of Season 5.
He is a psychotic lemon person who rules the Earldom of Lemongrab. Created by Princess Bubblegum to serve as her heir, Lemongrab's creation didn't turn out as expected due to Lemongrab turning against her and trying to take over the Candy Kingdom.
He was voiced by Justin Roiland, who also voiced Evil Morty and Rick Prime in Rick and Morty.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Takes over the Candy Kingdom when he finds out that due to nearly being killed by The Lich, Princess Bubblegum has turned into a 13 years old teenager. He does this even though she was his creator.
- Sends the Candy People to the Candy Castle's dungeons over petty reasons. When Finn the Human, Princess Bubblegum, and Peppermint Butler prank him to force him to leave, he sentences them to the dungeons for 1,000,000 years.
- He spends his time breaking into the homes of the Candy Kingdom citizens and watching them while they sleep, which greatly disturbs them.
- When the Pup Gang, a group of candy children, is sent by Princess Bubblegum to be his subjects, he puts them in a reconditioning chamber and tortures them with electricity in his attempts to "rehabilitate" them so they behave as he wants.
- After Princess Bubblegum tries to show Lemongrab a different way to treat others, he refuses to believe any methods other than his own are correct.
- He attempts to torture Finn and Jake when they try to rescue the Pup Gang.
- He uses his Sound Sword against Princess Bubblegum when she tries to reason with him, forcing Finn to protect her.
- Tries to kill the Ice King because he thought his goal of bringing his fan fiction characters to life was stupid.
- He almost kills his creator Princess Bubblegum.
- Wastes the candy seeds he had gotten on making new lemon children, leaving his people (and even himself) to starve.
- Attempts to sack the Candy Kingdom to get food.
- Abuses his brother, biting parts of him off despite being his only friend/sibling and the only person who ever understood him. He also forces his children to hurt themselves for his amusement, and uses electric shocks.
- He devoured his brother for releasing Finn, Princess Bubblegum and Lemonhope.
- Turns the Earldom into a dictatorship, preventing the citizens from leaving and devours them when they try to escape. He also sends his "son" Lemonhope to prison.
- While he redeems himself, he didn't do it on his own volition, but because Princess Bubblegum merged him with his brother upon bringing him back to life, making his redemption forced. He also still commits evil acts on his own accord, like when he tries to kill Finn with lemon candy.
- While he's played for laughs in his early appearances, he's taken more seriously later on.
- While he was somewhat tragic at the start of the series due to being a twisted creation of Bubblegum which made it hard to not pity him, he subverts this tragedy by later seasons.
- While very psychotic, he still has moral agency as he is shown to be capable to be a good person, albeit for a very temporary period before almost immediately doubling down on his villainy and becoming a tyrant.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Even though he's played more seriously in Season 5, he still has some comedic moments that detract from his villainy, such as him running off screaming that Princess Bubblegum made him while ripping off his clothes, his hilariously bad propaganda video for Castle Lemongrab and his death scene in which he violently blows up upon hearing Lemonhope play his harp, screaming "I CAN'T STANDS NO MORE!" as a reference to Popeye.
