Dylan Gould is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Megatron) of the 2011 science-fiction action film Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the third installment of the original continuity of Paramount Pictures' Transformers film series.
He is the CEO of the multi-international Hotchkiss Gould Investments car company, serving as the boss of Carly Spencer, who is the girlfriend of Sam Witwicky, who is the main human ally of Optimus Prime and his Autobots. However, it later turns out that Gould is in league with the Decepticons, having offered his services to Megatron and Sentinel Prime in exchange of being spared.
He was portrayed by Patrick Dempsey.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He joined the Transformer cause by siding with the Decepticons to ensure his own safety, namely assisting Megatron and Sentinel Prime in their goals to restore Cybertron and rebuild it on the Earth by enslaving humanity and forcing all humans to work on their city's restoration.
- Though one might say that Gould followed the orders of the Decepticons because his father did the same and "inherited" his servitude to them, as Gould stated that he has no other choice than to obey the Decepticons, it's more than apparent that while Gould may have been forced by Megatron and Sentinel into working with them, he's fine with his own species being enslaved as long as he gets spared, which is further reinforced when he helps the Decepticons in the Battle of Chicago.
- He had anyone who uncovered the involvement of the Decepticons in the American and Soviet space missions killed by sending Laserbeak to brutally kill them as loose ends, like the NASA employees Jerry Wang and Bob Singer, with the latter presumably.
- He lusted after his employee Carly Spencer and tried to pursue her by giving her nice gifts like a Mercedes-Benz, despite knowing that she is dating Sam Witwicky.
- The Mercedes Benz car also happened to be Soundwave in disguise, so he could have got her the car to spy on her and Sam, which is inappropriate.
- He set up an interview for Sam just to blackmail him into revealing what the Autobots are planning to defeat the Decepticons so he can pass the information to them to allow them to defeat the Autobots and win the war.
- He attached Watch-Out, a watch-like Decepticon, to Sam's wrist to force him to comply, with the Decepticon hurting Sam's nervous system to force him to obey his orders into telling him all Autobot plans and tactics.
- He had Carly locked up inside her Mercedes-Benz, who is actually Soundwave, a Decepticon, planning to force her into becoming his wife/slave.
- He ordered Starscream to blow up the spaceship in which the Autobots are apparently exiling themselves so the Decepticons can take install Control Pillars to attract Cybertron to the Earth with little problem, though in reality, the Autobots outsmarted Gould and his Decepticon allies by faking their deaths and not actually being onboard.
- He showed zero remorse over the fact that the Decepticons are going to enslave all humans to rebuild Cybertron when Carly called him out for that as the Battle of Chicago takes place, and while Dylan seemed to feel a bit unnerved for all the carnage and destruction the Decepticons caused, which he saw while sheltering himself and Carly on his comfy apartment, he said that he's fine with that if he is spared showing he never cared for humanity.
- He ordered Laserbeak to kill Sam when he trespassed into his property but failed since he was killed by Bumblebee.
- He warned Megatron about the Autobots not having died, pitting the Decepticons against the Autobots, which led to the deaths of Que/Wheeljack in the side of the Autobots and the deaths of Starscream, Shockwave, the Driller and Laserbeak.
- In Que's case, he didn't die fighting with his fellow Autobots, but got executed because Dylan ordered Soundwave prior to his death to kill all the Autobots prisoners they had, because at first it was "business" but then it was "personal", leading Bumblebee to eventually kill Soundwave after Que's death.
- He restarted the Control Pillar when it stopped under Sentinel Prime's request even though he could have ran away for his life while Sentinel wasn't looking, proving how willing he was to help the Decepticons and betray his own race in exchange of ruling over some humans, assuming that the Decepticons would even spare him and not walk back on their promise.
- He faced off against Sam one more time, viewing himself as a hero (even though is a villain and a fraud) of another world and mocking Sam by asking him if he thinks he is a hero.
- His death of getting electrified by the Control Pillar is played for complete satisfaction.
- Though he has some comedic moments like asking if he was too direct about his true persona, they don't detract from his heinousness.
- Though he does mention his father on a couple of occasions, there is nothing to prove that he has genuine love or care for him, and he might only be doing this just to put the blame for everything on his own father, who, in turn, did helped out with the Deceptions before him.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He didn't completely know the extent of the destruction the Decepticons planned or that only the humans Sentinel and Megatron would enslave were going to be the only spared humans even if he had no qualms at all about letting the Decepticons take over the Earth and enslave all of humanity.
- Furthermore, he fails the heinous standards to Harold Attinger, who nearly killed all Transformers and allowed Lockdown to risk lives in Hong Kong. While it's true Attinger has more resources, Dylan didn't do enough to stand out on his own.
- However, given the fact that he's instead rather fine with the situation, this is only a minor prevention.
- Furthermore, he fails the heinous standards to Harold Attinger, who nearly killed all Transformers and allowed Lockdown to risk lives in Hong Kong. While it's true Attinger has more resources, Dylan didn't do enough to stand out on his own.
Trivia[]
- His IDW counterpart is Pure Evil since unlike his film counterpart, he's completely aware of what the Decepticons were planning and chose to assist them out of his own will, and he doesn't have to compete with villains like Harold Attinger who doesn't exist there.
- Him and James Savoy are the only Near Pure Evil from the original Transformers films to be human.
- His actor Patrick Dempsey also voiced Kenai and Robert Philip who are both Near Pure Good.
