| “ | No. I prefer to use my hands. I believe people have lost their relationship with food. They do not think, "This is something that died for me so that I would not go hungry." I like that connection with something you die for. I appreciate it more. | „ |

The Dutch Businessman is the main antagonist of the 2005 American horror slasher film Hostel.
He is one of the clients of the Elite Hunting Club who partakes in sadistically torturing tourists in ritualistic ways and brutally killing them. He also performs a surgery on the corpses of his victims to live his fantasy of becoming a surgeon, namely on Josh's corpse.
He was portrayed by Jan Vlasák.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- He is one of the many wealthy clients of the Elite Hunting Club who pays the club to torture and kill people, specifically travelers, in unimaginable ways.
- He is indirectly responsible for multiple deaths caused by other torturers since he pays the company, which helps the club manage operations and purchase torture gadgets.
- While he did have an arguably "harsh" background where he dreamt of becoming a surgeon one day but was rejected for having shaky hands, which led him to join the EHC, it not only barely justifies his actions but also is not played for sympathy, especially since he is no longer affected by that rejection.
- He is a sadist in general, enjoying his torture operations and carrying them out brutally and mercilessly, killing those he tortures without any hesitation.
- Although he has a wife, his relationship with her is not clear, and he is implied to not care for her at all, as he is shown to be gay and sexually assaults others.
- While he appears to have had an honorable moment when he saves Josh's life from the Bubblegum gang, apologizes for groping him earlier, and states that he would have reacted similarly, he only does this to gain Josh's trust, and he later becomes a victim of his brutal torture.
Hostel[]
- Due to being a client of the EHC for several years already, it is likely that he had taken several lives prior to the film's events.
- After introducing himself to Oli, Paxton, and Josh, he seemingly looks like a friendly old man who eats his salad in a weird way until he sexually harasses Josh by touching his leg and leaving after being told to do so.
- He orders unnamed EHC members to kidnap Oli and Yuki during the night and deliver them to his torture chamber. He then brutally tortures and decapitates Oli, taunting his friends with a picture of his head, before torturing and killing Yuki by cutting off her toes with a giant pair of pliers.
- Although it isn't confirmed that he personally tortured and killed Oli and Yuki, the implication strongly points to him due to the following reasons:
- He is the only EHC client in Bratislava who is familiar with Paxton and Josh, as he sends them a picture of Oli's head with the caption "I go home," proving that he is aware of their friendship with Oli, as he met them on the train.
- His whistling and outfit while torturing Oli and Yuki are almost exactly the same during the scene when he tortures Josh and operates a surgery on his corpse by sewing his scars.
- Although it isn't confirmed that he personally tortured and killed Oli and Yuki, the implication strongly points to him due to the following reasons:
- After Josh was drugged by EHC prostitutes, he gets kidnapped by an EHC member and is brought to the Dutch Businessman's torture chamber. He sadistically starts torturing Josh by drilling holes in his legs and slicing his tendons until he ultimately ends his life by slitting his throat.
- He performs surgery on Josh's corpse to fulfill his dreams of becoming a surgeon by sewing up his scars and his mouth.
- During a train ride to Vienna, he interacts with a passenger in the same manner he did with the protagonists earlier in the film, presumably to obtain their identities and torture them eventually.
- Despite his brutal death after his fingers were sliced and his throat was cut; it is heavily played for satisfaction and karma due to torturing and killing Josh's friends and for psychologically scarring him for the rest of his life.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He fails the high Heinous Standards of the Hostel franchise compared to Sasha Rassimov, who created and led the club itself, while the Dutch Businessman is just one of EHC's torturers who does similar acts. Although he does stand out from other torturers due to having a higher kill count and performing surgery on Josh's corpse.
- He genuinely cares for his daughter and mentions that he misses her, and while he does use this to trick people into trusting him, barely anything hints that this is a lie.
- His relationship with his daughter is further emphasized in the director's cut version, as after reaching the Vienna train station, he rushes to his daughter outside and plays with her. He sincerely cares for her daughter, as after realizing she's nowhere to be found, he panically asks strangers about her whereabouts and has a breakdown after failing to find her. While this is played for sympathy, at least unintentionally, it still remains as a minor prevention, as he did the same thing to Paxton's friends but worse, and he brought it all up himself.
