Dr. Ivo Robotnik, now known as Dr. Eggman, is the main antagonist of the Sonic Legacy webcomic series, and the main protagonist of the first issue of its spin-off Mobius Legacy. He is a human scientist who sought to find a cure for NIDS, but was exiled for his unethical methods, driving him to villainy in an attempt to create a perfect world.
In the official dub of the comic, he is voiced by Kyle Boyle.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- While he was originally a kind scientist who only sought to do good, he had subverted it by the present day with how twisted his intentions to "perfect" the society have become.
- His fall to villainy began when he, in a misguided attempt to cure Nicole of NIDS, put her into a permanent coma and hooked her up to a bulky BADNIK life support machine, horrifying the Mobius Council and traumatizing the girl's parents. Moreover, while Nicole was presumed dead after the incident, her mind was actually digitized, leaving her trapped in Robotnik's base for years until Tails discovered her. Eggman never expressed remorse for his action, still believing that what he did was right, and that he was misunderstood and unjustly disgraced.
- He trapped numerous critters inside Badniks to work for him.
- He searched for the Chaos Emeralds to complete his plan and, having acquired five, sent Omelette to the South Island to find the sixth one, taking it over in the process.
- When Sonic and Tempest tried to interfere with his plans, he set up a trap for the former, but when Tempest was captured instead, the doctor threatened her life to try and blackmail Sonic into surrendering.
- He used Tempest as a living battery for his Alep robot.
- He took over a Mobium mine on West Side Island for its resources.
- Before infiltrating Castle Acorn for the final Chaos Emerald, he had Omelette attack Mobotropolis as a distraction. In a later issue, Clove the Pronghorn mentions that the attack resulted in around a hundred casualties.
- Though it appeared that he was briefly touched by Charles' attempts to convince him to stop doing evil, he quickly dismissed it.
- Although he warns Omelette not to be caught in the Eraser Cannon's blast once he fires it, it's unknown if it's because he cares for her or simply believes she could still be useful to him.
- When Sonic finally confronted Eggman on the Death Egg, he revealed that he planned to use the Chaos Emeralds to power his Eraser Cannon, which would wipe out all life on Mobius so that he could rebuild the planet the way he seemed fit.
- After crash-landing on Angel Island, he attempted to secure the Master Emerald, only to be stopped by Knuckles. After contacting the echidna, he tricked him into believing that he was an innocent researcher and Sonic was a criminal hunting for the Chaos Emerald, likely leading to a confrontation between the two in the near future.
- Though the ambiguously canon pilot issue of Legacy Uncut audio drama has Sonic mention that he turned himself in after the events of the Sonic Adventure 2 adaptation, it's unclear if he did this out of genuine remorse, since said adaptation hasn't been written yet, and it's unknown if Eggman will actually do so in it.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He is a well-intentioned extremist, as while his attempt to wipe Mobius clean of all life is hypocritical in and on itself, he still genuinely wants to create a utopia with no wars, ethnic conflicts, incurable diseases or suffering that would be worth living in.
- His fall to villainy is treated sympathetically by the narrative, as he had good intentions but was disgraced by his one unethical decision.
Trivia[]
- While Dr. Eggman is currently considered Near Pure Evil, this may change in the future if he does genuinely redeem himself or at least gain too severe preventions, as implied by Legacy Uncut.
