You know that above all I detest sentimental tripe like "honor" and "mercy." This is war! All that matters is victory!
~ Don Krieg's views on war.

Don Krieg is the main antagonist of the Baratie Arc and a major antagonist from the East Blue Saga. He is the fearsome admiral of the Krieg Pirates from the East Blue.

He is voiced by Fumihiko Tachiki in Japanese who also voiced Akainu, and by Andy Mullins in the FUNimation English version.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He killed all of the marine officers to take their ship after he escaped prison.
  • It is implied that he attack others countries and/or killed other pirates when he started his pirate career.
  • After Sanji gave him food, he brutally attacked Sanji's abdomen then broke Gin's shoulder in spite of having promised beforehand that he wouldn't attack Sanji.
  • Despite Zeff giving enough food for his entire crew to be fed, he returns with his crew to try and take over the Baratie and use it as a replacement ship.
  • Attacked by shooting at the Baratie's chefs when they try to stop him, leaving them for dead.
  • Killed one of his men who only suggested him to not venture to Grand Line in order to protect him.
  • Tried to kill Sanji by throwing a spiky ball until he got stopped by Luffy.
  • Tricked everyone at the Baratie that he is going to launch a toxic gas, but instead throwing shurikens, some of which hit Luffy.
  • When Gin couldn't kill Sanji out of gratitude for having given food to him before, Don Krieg attempted to kill him for his insubordination. He then later commanded Gin to throw the mask to him this time so he'd be unprotected against the real poison gas he planned to unleash. This severely weakened Gin and nearly killed everyone on the Baratie.
  • Tried to kill Luffy during his fight while using dirty tactics, including using a cape with metal spikes in an attempt to injure and deter him from fighting after he got shot with the needle machine gun, but to his surprise, Luffy was able to knock him to the ground with his punch despite severely damaging his hand.
    • He has done dirty tactics in previous fights, with them relying on surprise attacks from his weapons, hence his infamous moniker of Foul-Play Krieg.
  • Unlike the Villains of East Blue Arc, he has no redeeming qualities and is taken completely seriously.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Despite having lower resources than the vast majority of One Piece villains in general, he still fails to Kuro who had lesser resources but planned to kill his own men and risked the deaths of all the Syrup Village inhabitants.

Trivia[]

  • He is the first Near Pure Evil villain in One Piece.
  • His live-action counterpart doesn't qualify as he lacks enough screentime to establish his heinous actions, as he is killed by Dracule Mihawk moments after his introduction.
