"Don" José Reyes is the main antagonist of the 2010 Mexican black comedy crime film El Infierno.
He is the leader and co-founder of the Reyes Del Norte (Kings of the North) Cartel. He appears as a protective and caring figure with extremely good leading skills with his cartel, but in reality, he is a really sadistic being with little-to no tolerance against failure that will dispose everyone that tries to oppose him.
He was portrayed by Ernesto Gomez Cruz.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- José has no problems in killing everyone that gets in his way. When Benny 'betrayed' him, he made his mission to kill him and his whole family, including his teenager nephew. He successfully kills Benny's wife by decapitating her and staging her corpse in her own house so Benny could find her. The worst he did in this regard however, is killing Cochiloco's (co-protagonist) first born son just for failing him to protect J.R (José's son), even if Cochiloco didn't have any fault at all because they were ambushed. When Cochiloco tried to avenge his son, he was killed by Don José off-screen.
- The cartel war he was having is against his own brother, Pancho Reyes. José's primary goal is to kill his brother and all of his sons (that are his nephews), a goal that is achieved at the end of the film. He often sent him the dead bodies of his nephews as a way of mocking him, and since José had only one son, Pancho's only choice was to send him the corpses of his brother's killed minions, much at José's disinterest. At the end of the film, José successfully kills his resting nephews and sends a squad of hitmen to finally kill his brother, not before showing him the severed heads of his sons.
- In general, he seemed happy when Benny and Cochiloco killed his nephews.
- He threatened to kill Cucaracha's children.
- He gruesomely executes his rivals and everyone who betrays him as a way to give a lesson. Killing without torture is unethical for him and is completely forbidden within his Cartel. For example, he kills a man named Cucaracha (who was a snitch) by cutting both of his hands with a chainsaw, cutting his tongue out with a knife and then finally shooting him in the head, all in front of his former associates. Later in the film it is also revealed that he killed Benny's brother (who was called 'El Diablo') in a similar way, but castrated him while alive instead of sawing off his hands as a punishment for having an affair with his wife.
- While he loved his wife calling her "My Queen" and treats her well, he ultimately subverts this when he uses her as a human shield for Benny's bullets.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He cares for his son and when he was killed by the Panchos, he cried for his death, vowing to avenge him. He also asked for J.R to not ridiculize his fallen cousins as respect for his grandmother, showing that Don José still had care for his mother.
- He has a Pet the Dog moment in which he donates to an Elementary School and another in which he orders Cochiloco to give 3,000 dollars to his henchmen's widows.
