Near Pure Evil Wiki

New weapons, secret weapons, invented by Ludendorff's chief psychopath Doctor Isabel Maru. The boys in the trenches called her "Doctor Poison", for good reason...
~ Steve Trevor about Doctor Poison.
Look at her and tell me I'm wrong! She is the perfect example of these humans. And unworthy of your sympathy in any way! Destroy her, Diana. You know that she deserves it, they all do! Destroy her Diana. DO IT!
~ Ares urging Diana to kill Maru.

Dr. Isabel Maru, more commonly known as Doctor Poison, is a major antagonist in the 2017 DC Extended Universe film Wonder Woman.

She was portrayed by Elena Anaya.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Developed a deadly gas by performing horrible experiments on other people, including children.
  • When the German High Command wanted to end the war, Maru and Ludendorff locked them in a room and gassed them to death, even sadistically leaving behind a single mask for them to fight over, despite it being futile in protecting them from it.
  • Even after Ludendorff’s death, Maru continued to fight, having the German soldiers load huge bombs on a plane to target all of London.
  • While the DCEU does have many vile villains, Maru stands out enough with her experiments as well as the fact she has much fewer resources than the other villains.
  • She was influenced by Ares, but Ares himself admits he didn’t make her do any of her crimes; he just put the idea in her head, but she chooses to do everything on her own.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She is genuinely loyal to Ludendorff. She listens to his every command, never thinks about betraying him, is friendly with him, and even when he dies, she tries to continue what he started.

Trivia[]

  • Doctor Poison was originally going to reappear in Zack Snyder's second Justice League movie; here it would be revealed that she was still alive thanks to the formulas that she has been practicing for years and using people as test subjects who came to die. Lex Luthor finds out about her and ends up locating her; he recruits her to join his Injustice League/Legion of Doom, and she agrees. One of the plans that she had, with the help of Luthor, was to release powerful poisonous gases in Themyscira to kill Wonder Woman and all the Amazons; she would end up succeeding in doing so when Luthor gives the order to eliminate the Justice League so that Darkseid can kill Superman, though Poison would end up dying by killing Wonder Woman and all of her people with a twisted smile. But because Snyder had to step down from directing the Justice League film and Warner wasn't interested in doing the next parts, these plans were scrapped, but if these plans had been made, it would've made Poison even worse.
