~ Daruma Ujiko to Tomura Shigaraki. |
Dr. Kyudai Garaki, also better known by his villainous alias Daruma Ujiko, is a major antagonist in the manga/anime series My Hero Academia. He is one of All For One's loyal servants and has been nursing him ever since his first defeat against All Might. He is also the scientist that is in charge of creating the Nomus.
Following All For One's arrest, Ujiko remained silent in the shadows and continued on with his work on the Nomus. He eventually reached out to Tomura Shigaraki and agreed to provide his services to him after hearing his motivation to destroy society.
He is voiced by Minoru Inaba in the Japanese version of the anime. In the English dub, he is voiced by Mark Stoddard, who also voiced Kazuo Tengan in Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He abducts innocent men, women and children for the purpose of converting them into Nomu; mindless monsters created from their reanimated corpses and augmented to hold several Quirks.
- It is heavily implied he used his own grandson to create the Winged Nomu that aided in the attack on Hosu City.
- He stole the corpse of Eraser Head and Present Mic's best friend, Oboro Shirakumo, after he was killed in an explosion caused by Ujiko and used it to reanimate him as the Nomu called Kurogiri. It's later revealed he was actually intending to kill Eraserhead in the explosion and use his corpse to empower the Nomu's.
- He helps empower All For One by giving him Nomus and fully supporting his agenda.
- He also gave All For One his immortality, which allowed him to live longer and cause more chaos as a result.
- Aided All For One in duplicating Overhaul's Quirk and creating Decay from it, so that All For One could use the Quirk to let Tenko kill his own family.
- Gives Dabi a High-End Nomu named Hood, allowing it to cause destruction in a city and nearly kill Endeavor.
- Empowers Nine and gives him the power of All For One, allowing him to steal many people's Quirks and terrorize an entire island.
- He empowers Tomura Shigaraki by implanting the All for One quirk in his body. He knows that Shigaraki wants to destroy society and willingly gives him more power, uncaring of the destruction it will cause.
- Despite the high Heinous Standards of the series, he stands out for his low resources in comparison to other villains, since he has no superpowers other than longevity, and creating the Nomus via countless innocent people (with them causing the deaths of countless more). He also has personal villainy towards Eraser Head and Present Mic for turning their best friend into Kurogiri, not to mention he is also the reason for All For One coming back and obtaining his longevity in the first place.
- Though he has some comedic moments, such as cuddling the Nomu Johnny in a flashback or praising Tomura and All For One in an over-the-top way, they are not detracting and just show his disturbing fanatacism.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He has a genuine care for and undying loyalty towards All For One due to him being the only one who didn't laugh at his Quirk Singularity theory. The doctor has given him his "Life Force" Quirk so he could live for centuries (while making a copy for himself), resurrected him upon his death at All Might's hands, and was willing to assist Tomura solely for All For One's sake despite not believing in him.
- Genuinely cares about his Nomu creations, wanting to avenge the sacrifice that Mocha made to save him from Mirko, apologizing to the High-Ends for being forced to release them earlier than expected, and mourning the death of Johnny as he held him in his arms.
