“ | You want to control the world, I just want to punish it. | „ |
~ Dante Reyes revealing his true agenda to Cipher after taking over her forces. |
“ | Never accept death, when suffering is owed. | „ |
~ Dante Reyes' catchphrase. |
Dante Reyes is one of two main antagonists (Alongside Cipher) of the Fast & Furious franchise.
He is the leader of a Rio de Janeiro, Brazil's terrorist group and the son of the late Reyes crime family head Hernan Reyes, who was killed by the Toretto Crew ten years before the events of the film. Eager for payback, Dante orchestrates a plot to brand the Toretto Crew as criminals before attempting to kill them all.
He is portrayed by Jason Momoa.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Even in his youth, he displayed sociopathic traits by cutting off the tongues of those who called him crazy, and always got away with it because he was bailed out of prison.
- Assisted his father Hernan Reyes, a ruthless crime lord, in his many criminal operations, often helping him with his targets.
- Tried to capture Dominic Toretto and his crew so his father could torture them.
- During the vault heist, he almost kills Toretto with a minigun before getting knocked off the bridge.
- Turns all of Cipher's men against her (although she deserved it) by threatening the lives of their loved ones after she rejects his offer for partnership in getting back at the Toretto Crew, even killing one member of her organization who doesn't have anyone he cares for and thus he can't threaten him.
- Lures Dom's team to Rome, Italy by setting a false mission of the Agency up for them to stop a truck carrying a bomb by making it look it carried chips.
- Using the bomb to blow up the Vatican and frame the Toretto Crew for it, causing them to be brought at the top of the most wanted criminals list and Letty Ortiz to be arrested by the Agency and sent to the Agency Black Site base in Antarctica.
- Kills two of his men after they do their job at Rome due to outliving their usefulness, even playing around with their corpses.
- Participates in a Brazilian car race during which he kills Diogo and tries to murder Isabel Nieves if not for Dominic Toretto's intervention.
- Hacks the bank accounts of Dom's teams and steals all of their money to screw them up.
- Attacks Dom on a bridge, setting it up to make it look like the Agency member Aimes is helping Dom.
- Steals God's Eye from Tess to track Dom and his crew down.
- Kidnaps Dom's son Brian Toretto during a car chase.
- Indirectly forces Dom's brother Jakob to sacrifice himself to save Dom and Brian during the chase, much to their shock. And unfortunately, Jakob's sacrifice to save the duo were in vain as Dante continued to pursue them.
- Lures Dom and Brian onto a dam, planning to crash two remote-controlled trucks into their car and blow them up.
- Has Aimes take down the plane carrying all of Dom's crew, seemingly killing them all.
- Rigs the dam with timed explosives to kill Dom and Brian once his trucks fail to kill them, intending to drown them with the incoming water.
- Makes clear his intentions to go after Luke Hobbs for him being the one who personally killed his father after being done with the Toretto Crew, with the implications he may endanger him and his loved ones (such as his daughter) being clear.
- None of his comical moments detract from how dangerous he is, being shown as one of the worst adversaries Dominic Toretto and his loved ones have ever faced.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Even though he acknowledges he was a bad person, he still cared for his father enough to wish to avenge his death by targeting those who killed him.
Trivia[]
- In spite of the open-ended ending of Fast X, it has been reported that Dante Reyes may not return in the upcoming Fast XI sequel, with plans apparently being to bring in a different antagonist in a plot that "throws back" to the original The Fast and the Furious film. If that happens, this may make Dante Reyes even worse as this would mean he got away with all his actions against with Dominic Toretto, his family and his gang with zero repercussions.
- However, it's possible Dante's Near Pure Evil status may change if he returns in the upcoming Hobbs & Reyes spin-off that is rumored to be in the works to flesh out the vengeance storyline between Reyes and Hobbs. Though assuming he still cared for his father, it won't affect his NPE status.
