The Dalek Emperor is the main antagonist of Series 1 of the revival series of Doctor Who. He was the egotistical leader of the Dalek race during the Last Great Time War and rebuilt the Dalek species from human DNA centuries after their fall, along with the Time Lords, at the end of the war.

Even before being lost in time, the Emperor thought a lot of himself, but after being driven mad by his isolation for centuries, he thought himself a literal God and ruled over his Daleks as such, proudly exclaiming he created "pure" Daleks from human DNA, contrary to their existential self-hatred due to their "impure" origins.

He was portrayed by Nicholas Briggs.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He committed countless crimes in the Time War, participating (albeit offscreen) in the endless cycles of death and destruction brought on by the war, holding supreme command of the Daleks as they fought through time. The Daleks are seen attacking Gallifrey in particular, especially on the last day of the war during the fall of the Gallifreyan city of Arcadia.
    • Before the final days of the War, the Emperor took control of the Cruciform, which apparently yielded enough terrifying destructive power to scare The Master.
  • After barely surviving the (presumed) activation of the Moment, the Emperor remained on his ship, "damaged but rebuilding" at the edge of the solar system, slowly losing his mind while alone in "the dark space". Eventually infiltrating humanity via Satellite Five, he placed the beastly Jagrafess in charge. This throws off the Human Empire's expected path in history as a prosperous powerhouse; instead, humanity is kept under the thumb of the Daleks in secret, being socio-culturally and morally set back under their machinations.
  • The Emperor violently harvested any humans that were in his reach for their genetic material, growing a new breed of Daleks from the compatible cells. This new breed were resentful of their own existence for their non-Kaled, "impure" human origins, rendering them deranged and even more dangerous as a result.
  • The Emperor's ego only grew as time went on, until he believed himself to be God for having resurrected Dalek-kind, declaring himself the "god of all Daleks" and creating a cult-like following among his new Dalek breed who worshipped him accordingly.
  • After the death of the Jagrafess, the Emperor degraded humanity from behind the scenes even further. Satellite Five was converted into "the Game Station", a massive complex of game shows where the losing contestants are believed by themselves and the viewers to be executed by disintegration, which is actually a disguised transmat beam that transports them to the Emperor's flagship to be harvested for Dalek material. Earth itself also became a smog-coated hellhole, and humanity became even more socio-culturally and morally decayed.
  • Soon after meeting the Doctor for the first time since the Time War, the Emperor orders his fleet to literally raze the Earth, intending to turn it into a second Skaro; his own temple of worship. The firebombing campaign undoubtedly kills the majority of Earth's population, as the continents are literally misshapen by the explosions within a matter of moments.
    • Considering the Daleks' main objective, it's also stated by the Doctor that the Emperor likely would've used his new Dalek paradise as a launching point to invade and purge the rest of the universe until Daleks were the only lifeforms left.
  • As the Doctor builds a delta wave generator to destroy the Daleks, the Emperor taunts the Doctor over the fact that the delta wave cannot be refined and will destroy any human survivors on Earth along with the Daleks as a result of its activation. Even as the Doctor has his hand on the trigger, the Emperor dares him to pull it, seemingly unconcerned at the possible destruction of the Daleks (coldly stating he himself is immortal), so long as he can bear witness to the Doctor's extermination of mankind. When the Doctor decides against being a killer, the Emperor gloats that the remaining humans will be made into Daleks before attempting to have him exterminated.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • The Daleks are a genetically-modified species, biologically incapable of feeling anything other than hatred, fear, supremacy, and other such negative/aggressive traits, having had their empathy, mercy, or anything else that could make them less savage totally suppressed. The Emperor is no exception. However, his hubris far exceeds the other Daleks, especially after spending centuries in perpetual isolation and emerging with a stubborn sense of godhood, making him slightly more agent than others of his kind.

Trivia[]

  • The Dalek Emperor and the Supreme One are the only Daleks in Doctor Who to be Near Pure Evil.
