Sir Crocodile, formerly known as Mr. 0, is a major antagonist of the One Piece franchise. He served as the main antagonist in the Baroque Works Saga and Alabasta Arc, but later he become a temporary ally during the Impel Down Arc and Marineford War Arc.
He's the former president of the Baroque Works and one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, who tried to take over the Kingdom of Alabasta and wishes to create his own utopia. Due to his terrible deeds, he is the arch-enemy of Princess Nefeltari Vivi and one of Monkey D. Luffy's most hated foes yet. After the Seven Warlords' abolishment, Crocodile is now a co-leader and co-founder of Cross Guild along with his former Warlord colleague, Dracule Mihawk.
He is voiced by Ryuzaburo Otomo (who also voiced King Cold) in Japanese, and John Swasey (who also voices All For One) in English.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He created an evil organization named "Baroque Works" and gathered some of the best bounty hunters in the world.
- He wanted to translate the Rio Poneglyph to get the ancient weapon called "Pluton" to gain a great military power.
- Most likely killed off Puppu and his crew with his sandstorm.
- While posing as a hero in the public face of Alabasta, Crocodile showed no regards to almost everyone but himself. He even attempted to murder a Baroque Works officer, Galdino, for failing him by using his Devil Fruit powers to dehydrate him and send him to be eaten by his pet Banana Gators, although Galdino managed to survive.
- Caused wars at Alabasta for a very long time. He enacted Operation Utopia as means to usurp Nefertari Cobra.
- Tricked everyone by saying that the Dance Powder would make rain, while in reality it would create dryness at Alabasta, framing Nefertari Cobra for it.
- Orchestrated a civil war to take over Alabasta.
- Planted a bomb to destroy the capital for no reason.
- Nearly killed Monkey D. Luffy during their first encounter.
- Stabbed his former partner Nico Robin, who was previously known by her code name "Ms. All Sunday", with his hook when the poneglyphs didn't reveal the location of the ancient weapon.
- Attempted to kill Whitebeard out of revenge for his previous loss against the emperor.
- He and Dracule Mihawk created a Marine hunting organization called Cross Guild. A star worth 100,000,000 and a crown worth 1,000,000,000. Under normal circumstances, a Marine captain is worth 1 star and an Admiral is worth 3 crowns, Crocodile make special additional bounty for the famous Marines such as Captain Koby is worth 5 stars (due to him being a hero of the Rocky Port incident) and Vice-Admiral Monkey D. Garp is worth 3 crowns (due to him being the legendary Marine who fought against Roger). His and Mihawk's actions have severely weakened the Marines' military power when a civilian killed Vice-Admiral T Bone. His actions also caused the Blackbeard Pirates to gain interest of the Marine hunting (which is the reason Teach captured Koby).
- Crocodile showed disgust at Buggy for being so weak, pathetic and cowardly despite being aware of how Buggy used to be a member of the Roger Pirates (which still didn't change his opinion). He, along with Mihawk, brutally beat Buggy for his mistake of being an Emperor and figurehead of Cross Guild. Though letting Buggy live as a puppet figurehead, Crocodile and Mihawk are still planning to dispose of Buggy at any time if the need arises. Despite letting him live just to benefit him and Mihawk, they still beat Buggy for his ignorance and delusions.
- He and Donquixote Doflamingo were both the main reason of the dissolution of the Seven Warlords due to them inflicting pain and suffering upon both King Cobra and Riku as well the collateral damage upon Arabasta and Dressrosa. Even when Mihawk pointed out that Crocodile is partly to be blamed for the dissolution of the Seven Warlords, Crocodile truly didn't care for what he did to cause the abolishment.
- While he did helped Jinbei escape Marineford with Luffy, he stated that the only reason he wants to see Luffy alive is so he can suffer.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He genuinely cares about his right hand man Daz Bones, whom he was formerly known by his code name "Mr. 1". In Impel Down, he freed Mr. 1 as a reward for choosing to stay by his side due to his fiercely loyalty towards him. After the Summit War, Crocodile offers Daz Bones to join him in his travels, which he accepted without hesitation.
- Even when he was defeated by Luffy at Arabasta, Crocodile doesn't seem to hold a grudge on Luffy. He saved Luffy from both Mihawk and Akainu when he possibly learned Luffy's father is none other than Dragon. Even after Luffy became a member of Four Emperors, he still has no interest of fighting Luffy and the other Emperors (Shanks and Blackbeard) anymore when he and Mihawk declined to oblige Buggy's delusional goal for the One Piece treasure. Crocodile (along with Mihawk) considered Luffy's status as a member of the Four Emperors to be generally well earned for defeating Kaido in order to usurp his position (unlike Buggy, who Crocodile always considered to be pathetic, weak and cowardly). This demonstrates he holds some honor and respect for Luffy.
Trivia[]
- Crocodile was originally considered to be Inconsistently Heinous, but since it was clarified that his most heroic actions fighting against the Marine during the war were pragmatic and self-serving, he is officially now NPE.
- Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece originally intended the series to end at Alabasta Arc where Crocodile would be the main antagonist of the series as a whole. However, Oda realised the ending of One Piece would take longer than he thought and as a result, he kept writing One Piece that still continues today. Had the original intention been kept, Crocodile would've been approved as Pure Evil, as his redeeming qualities didn't show up until after Alabasta Arc, as well as his care for Mr. 1 being ambiguous.
