NOTE: This article is specifically about the Canon version of Dr. Evazan, as the Legends version of Dr. Evazan was voted Pure Evil. Thus, only information about the Canon version of Evazan should be included, and nothing about the Legends one. |

~ Cornelius Evazan |
Doctor Cornelius Evazan, also known as Roofoo, Doctor Death, or simply The Doctor, is a minor antagonist in the 1977 film Star Wars: A New Hope and a minor character in its 2016 prequel Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
He is a notorious doctor and outlaw active during the Galactic Civil War. He considered himself a skilled surgeon, even though his patients were often maimed or killed after botched "operations." By the time of the Battle of Yavin, his activities had earned him a death sentence in at least twelve systems.
He was portrayed by the late Alfie Curtis in the 1977 film and Michael Smiley in the 2016 prequel.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Prior to A New Hope, Evazan was a black-market surgeon and space pirate wanted across the galaxy. In his younger years, he performed numerous surgeries that disfigured many people. This led him to become an infamous outlaw.
- Along with his partner Ponda Baba, he continued to commit heinous crimes across the galaxy, with Evazan even lobotomizing the top halves of injured citizens' heads (or their entire heads in some cases) and replacing them with droid brains, turning them into meat droids, which he sold to others in the black market.
- The aforementioned crimes had earned Evazan the death sentence in 12 different star systems, something he considers an accomplishment and is proud of.
- In A New Hope, Evazan and Ponda encountered Luke in a bar on the planet Tatooine, where they randomly decided to pick a fight with him just because they didn't like him, only to be stopped by Obi Wan Kenobi.
- After that incident, they both returned to their ways, surgically implanting Aphra and the droid, trying to kill her with bombs that'll go off if either they die or get further than 20 meters from each other, before dropping them in a hostile city with a price on their heads so they'll have to work together to survive.
- What makes this matter even worse is that Evazan did it just because he was bored and wanted something funny to watch while he was laying low.
- Evazan is a sadistic mad doctor and space pirate who had zero remorse or regard for others, openly referring to himself and his partner as evil and bragging that they have committed enough crimes for him to be given the death sentence in 12 different star systems. His crimes include murder, attempted murder, illegal surgery forcibly performed on others, slave trade, and a number of other crimes.
- Despite being mentally ill, he has a full sense of right and wrong; he’s evil and proud of it.
- Despite the high Heinous Standards of Star Wars, Evazan stands out due to having very few resources and doing the worst with what he's given. Not to mention, his crime of unethical experimentation is fairly unique to the franchise.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He had a genuine friendship with Ponda Baba, as the latter saved him from a bounty hunter, and Evazan would give him a new robotic arm after losing it from the bar encounter, showing that he had some care for Baba.
Trivia[]
- His Legends version does not count as Near Pure Evil due to not actually having redeeming qualities or positive factors, as he saw Ponda Baba as a tool for his goals, and he also started a zombie apocalypse, so this version is Pure Evil instead.
