Near Pure Evil Wiki

ā€œ I am TARTAR, an AI construct created 12,000 years ago by a brilliant professor. My prime directive is to pass humanity's vast knowledge on to the next worthy lifeform. When your kind became self-aware, I hoped that my long wait was finally over. But as I observed your evolution, I WAS DISGUSTED! You wage war over minor genetic deviations. You obsess over trivial fashion choices. And so I created a new prime directive: destroy this world and start anew! From the best and brightest test subjects, I created a sludge of supreme DNA. A primordial ooze from which the ultimate lifeform will emerge. Today is the day my vision becomes reality, as I destroy Inkopolis and everyone in it! ā€ž
~ Commander Tartar revealing its true plans.

Commander Tartar, also known as the Telephone, is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Mr. Grizz) of the Splatoon franchise.

It is an ancient artificial intelligence who is the CEO of Kamabo Corporation, the boss of C. Q. Cumber, and the archenemy of Agent 8. It seeks to wipe out all the planet's life to remake it in its own image upon becoming disappointed in both the Inklings and Octolings.

Its Evil Ranking[]

What Makes It Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Despite being an artificial intelligence, Tartar displays clear moral agency.
  • It grew to hate the Inklings and Octolings not only for waging war over minor genetic deviations, but also out of something so minor and petty as fashion choices.
  • It sanitised dozens of Octolings and Octarians, which is a much worse form of brainwashing, as shown by Acht/Dedf1sh, who seems to still have trouble experiencing emotions even after having their memories and free will restored by Marina. It’s also implied that the physical changes brought on by sanitisation are permanent as Acht’s skin still remains green while their tentacles are blue.
  • Tried to commit genocide on the Inklings and Octolings.
  • Killed up to 10,007 Octolings in a giant blender, all of them being teenagers.
  • After they were blended, it used their remains to form a hostile species called the Sanitized Octarians.
  • It brainwashed Agent 3 to make them capture Cap'n Cuttlefish and attack Agent 8 in an attempt to kill them.
  • It created a machine called the NILS Statue in hopes of killing all life on Earth with it.
  • It lacks any comedic moments and makes every other villain in the franchise, including the main antagonist DJ Octavio, look like a complete joke in comparison.
    • While it does speak in English slang in the NA version, it was to put up this trustworthy facade to its prey, and it even deactivates this in the climax where it's taken completely seriously.

What Prevents It from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • It respects its creator, calling him brilliant, calling the world he envisioned perfect, and wishing to finally be reunited with him in the afterlife in its last moments.

Trivia[]

  • Tartar is the only canon Splatoon Near Pure Evil on this wiki.
