His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He pitched the idea of Total Drama to Jonathan Gavrilovic in hopes to get rich while evading the law, and had him hand picked out 22 contestants and bring them to and island in which he'll make them go through challenges and kill one each episode.
- Personally kidnaps Alejandro and tries to burn down his house to kill his family, endangering the Burromuertos.
- He is shown to taunt the contestants, making them go through humiliating or dangerous challenges, which result in injuries and some deaths of the contestants.
- He and Zolkoff personally decide the death of each contestant eliminated, killing them in gruesome ways:
- Shoots Izzy in the head, though to be fair, Izzy somewhat deserved it for throwing the challenge for her team just to see one of her teammates die.
- Makes Owen swallow a cyanide pill.
- Has Zolkoff bash Eva's head in with a metal pipe.
- Gives DJ a lethal injection after he suffered a bear attack.
- Slices Gwen's wrists open.
- Throws a grenade at Tyler in which ended in his head exploding. What makes this worst was that Chris had the idea of throwing bowling balls at him, however, Zolkoff won the bet, yet still threatened to kill him the way he originally intended if Tyler threw the grenade away.
- Has Chef strap Sadie to a table and has Zolkoff slice her in half, denying her petition to at least let her say goodbye to Katie.
- Traps Cody in a spiked female-shaped iron maiden.
- Has Zolkoff tie up and burn Ezekiel alive, later mocking Ezekiel's Christianism when only his toque remained.
- Shoots Lindsay in the face. What's worse is that he originally wanted to cover her in wax alive, but because Chef forgot about it, resorted to just shoot her dead.
- Has Zolkoff slice Katie open after she attacks Chris with a knife to avenge Sadie's death.
- Has Sierra crushed by a giant block and then mocking her death when Trent expresses relief for how quick it was.
- Has Chef shoot LeShawna in the head because he had to attend a meeting with Jonathan even though he knew that Chef didn't want to kill any of the teens, even leaving Zolkoff behind to make sure Chef followed his orders instead of just asking the contestants to vote.
- Orders Zolkoff to slice Beth's throat just as she asked to be allowed to die with some dignity.
- Even during the challenges, it results in some contestants dying:
- DJ was mauled by a bear during the camping challenge, leading to his elimination (though to be fair, the Killer Bass were planning to vote Tyler off for his disability and only voted DJ at his own request, as he didn't want to live in such crippled state).
- Trent gets his head blown off by a landmine during the dirt bike challenge.
- And the serial killer challenge ends in Alejandro's and Heather's deaths.
- After each elimination, on Jonathan's orders, has an electronic gallery in each contestants deaths to make the contestants horrified and disgusted.
- When the military first comes to try to rescue the constants, fatally shoots Harold in the chest when he tries to escape first.
- Attempts to murder Geoff after he loses the finale to Justin.
- Was ecstatic when Jonathan called back green lighting another season.
- After realizing Jonathan lied to him and made him a fall guy, attempts to rat him out to spitefully bring him down with him, resulting in his justified death.
- He shows no concern for his cameraman, interns, Chef or Zolkoff, as he normally threatens the cameramen and interns, insults Chef numerous times and is only friends with Zolkoff due to mutual sadism.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He seems to care for his grandmother, as when being presented gooey cookies by Duncan for the cooking challenge, teared up while being reminded of how his grandma made them and affectionately referred to her as “Mee-Maw”, making this one instance sympathizable. However his personality is still nowhere close to sympathy, making this a minor prevention.
- He showed some sympathy towards three of the contestants, these being DJ, Courtney and Geoff:
- With DJ, he showed actual sympathy while seeing his state and painlessly killed him by giving him a lethal dose of poison to kill him quickly, sounding solemn as he does.
- With Courtney, allowed her to say goodbye to her friends, commenting she made it this far.
- And with Geoff, showed actual sympathy while saying he had to kill him, saying he made it far in the game and allowing him to say goodbye to Bridgette one last time.
- However since he still killed them all (minus Geoff, who got spared thanks to the authorities arriving), it is a very weak prevention.
Trivia[]
- Despair Island was originally intended to be the first installment of a fanfiction Total Drama trilogy called The Tragic Tale of Total Drama, with the casts of Total Drama: Revenge of the Island and Total Drama: Pahkitew Island competing in the fanfic's versions of Total Drama Action and Total Drama World Tour respectively, with Chris McLean to host the deadly competition once again. However, plans for this ultimately changed and the initial plot of Despair Island was rewritten to have Chris and his henchmen arrested at the end (albeit a "What If..." one-shot was posted in regards to how the second season would have developed). Had these plans not been altered, this would have made Chris even worse.
- Retrospectively, Despair Island author Knifez wished he should have scrapped the Serbian Mafia plot and have rather set the story in an alternate universe where production of snuff content is deemed acceptable over setting the story in what seems to be a dystopian future only to then reveal that the show takes place in a normal world under the legal system's noses. Had the fic been set in a dystopian future where seeing people kill each other is live television was deemed acceptable, then Chris may not have counted as Near Pure Evil due to potentially been unable to stand out in such a dark setting due to the System Standards.
- He is the only character from Despair Island to be Near Pure Evil as well as the only Fanon version of Chris McLean to be Near Pure Evil so far.
