Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- In the First Generation, most of the villains were either being minor villains or having redeeming qualities to not be count. Reptor and Lombard, for instance, whilst being co-conspirators of Manfroy and power hungry lords themselves, did have a soft spot to their family and their family's honor. However, Chagall was devoid of such qualities and was even worse than them.
- He mistreated Eldigan, his most loyal enforcer, even with the latter's loyalty and devotion to Chagall's family. Imuka loved Eldigan like a son, and Chagall despised him for it. He took his first opportunity to accuse Eldigan of undercutting him, humiliated him and imprisoned him, and then sent troops against Nordion while it's practically defenseless.
- He tricked Erinys into believing that Sigurd had Lewyn as a hostage.
- At the start of the story, Chagall had joined Manfroy's conspiracy in order to seize more power for himself. Under Manfroy's machination, Chagall murdered his own father, usurped the Agustrian throne, and started a war against Grannvale.
- Under Eldigan's protection, Chagall went into hiding in the next six months, whilst starting a corrupt rule in his land. He was condemned by his people, believing that he was an inept ruler unlike his father.
- After his six months of hiding, Chagall broke the agreement himself by provoking the Grannevale army and fought against Sigurd without honor.
- Chagall rejected Eldigan's request to retreat and believed the latter to be a traitor, executing his most loyal enforcer in the process. In the final battle between him and Sigurd, Chagall also gloated to Lachesis about her brother's demise.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He was killed fairly early in the story and thus was not sufficiently heinous in the work's Heinous Standards, especially when comparing to Manfroy and Hilda who were both much worse than him.
Trivia[]
- Chagall is one of the three Near Pure Evil in Fire Emblem series and Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War alongside Loptous and Victor.
- Chagall is worse than most of the treacherous lords for his unique reason. Whilst Andrey also committed patricide, an act which even disgusted Lombard, Chagall not only did the same thing, but also tricked Sigurd as well as other main cast members. Above all, Chagall had Eldigan, his loyal right-hand man, executed when the latter was trying to protect him, cementing Chagall's unique status as a trickster and an ingrate.
