NOTE: This is only about the canon version of Cave Johnson as his other non-canon roles such as in Aperture Desk Job were not voted Near Pure Evil. |
Cave Johnson is the overarching antagonist of the Portal game series. His eccentric and narcissistic personality makes him one of the important characters of the series as his actions lead to GLaDOS being created.
He was voiced by J.K. Simmons, who also voiced General Wade Eiling in Justice League Unlimited and Kai the Collector in Kung Fu Panda 3.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He performed several highly lethal tests which resulted in the deaths of countless test subjects.
- These tests were brutal and often resulted in the subjects getting mutilated in some way.
- He doesn't show much concern over his employees, as in one instance he forgot some repulsion gel was just blue paint and the subject broke his legs.
- He performed tests without subjects consent, as when he implanted dangerous microchips into their heads which put their lives at risk.
- He forced Caroline to be converted into GLaDOS if he were to die before the A.I system was invented, not showing much care as he states they should just "put her in it".
- This drove her mad and ultimately resulted in the neurotoxin attack.
- There were also lines of Caroline's response, but they were too disturbing they were cut from the game.
- He exploited homeless people in a last effort to get more test subjects promising more money.
- While he does have an affable nature, he sometimes breaks it when talking about his troubles which further shows his true nature.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Evil?[]
- He did genuinely care for Caroline, wanting her to continue his companies legacy.
- He has a few comedic moments such as his rant about Combustible Lemons.
- While he has no excuse for his actions, they were never done with truly bad intentions.
