Near Pure Evils who take the law into their own hands, believing the legal system is flawed or ineffective. While they may use extreme methods, their actions are usually driven by a desire to protect others or correct perceived wrongs, often driven by a belief that the law is insufficient or corrupt (e.g. Jacob Broadsky, Teru Mikami, Two-Face). This underlying intention to create a better world or correct injustices, even if misguided or extreme, differentiates them from those who are purely evil, who would act out of malicious intent, often seeking power, control, or causing harm solely for their own benefit without any redeeming purpose.

If the character is shown to be too much into vigilantism and can be considered as anti-villains with neutral alignment, they will risk losing their Near Pure Evil Status and end up qualifying for the Inconsistently Heinous and Villainous Benchmarks.

For the heroic counterpart of Vigilantes see here.
