We'll be back at the end of the season... when the last leaf falls. You ants have a nice summer. LET'S RIDE!
~ Hopper before making his way back to his home for his cooling-off period while threatening the ants into restocking their offering to them.
23 YEARS, LUIS!! I'VE BEEN LOCKED AWAY. Locked, in this cell... with no light... no air... next to nothing...! I have been eaten alive, Luis. Just remember... I exist. As a Scrapper, and as a prisoner, but... as your friend, right?
~ Dust Man revealing he has been in jail for 23 years.
SCP-4666 activity occurs exclusively within a period of 12 consecutive nights every year, from the night of December 21-22 to the night of January 1-2; this period is known as SCP-4666’s “active phase”.
~ A description of SCP-4666’s Weissnacht event, which is the only time it attacks.

Near Pure Evils who have so-called "cooling-off periods", where their villainy remains paused and inactive for a significant period of time. Though these villains may be still around, they do not pose an immediate threat to the heroes. However, they have not expressed remorse for their actions, and still lack redeeming qualities (although some can definitely feel/have either).

The most common instances of these kinds of villains are:

  1. The villain’s superpowers were stripped, and they can no longer be a major threat, either permanently or only for certain amount of time (e.g. Raiden the Moon King, Erythros, and Kai Chisaki).
  2. The villain lost their legal authority and are subservient to another character after their defeat (e.g. Queen Chrysalis).
  3. The villain temporarily allies with the heroes to fight against a threat bigger than them or simply assisting them in something important out of reluctance or pragmatism, either way sometimes making them a protagonist. They can also temporarily help the public or neutral characters on something (Like rebuilding a town, etc.). (e.g., Superman, King K. Rool, Tighten, Lasombra, Wonder Woman, Kikimora, Professor Pericles, HIM, Dr. Eggman, Gigantomachia, Byron Hadley, Hans Landa, Hiro Shishigami, Shadow the Hedgehog, Evil Morty and Kazuya Mishima).
  4. The villain spends a significant amount of time being imprisoned or taken as a hostage on-screen (e.g., Victor Vega, Alex DeLarge, Boingo, Venom, Imhotep and Masamune Dan). In some cases, they are trying to break free (e.g. King Sombra, Zelus, Dark Danny, Jun Gi Baek, and Dust Man).
  5. The story moves onto other villains/arcs or takes a break from the drama and the villain is no longer the main or immediate focus to the heroes (e.g., Daruma Ujiko, Niles, Arruda and Ryoba Aishi).
  6. The villain is left alive or active after suffering a major defeat that left them in a permanently different condition or handicap. The villain then works for another character (e.g., Ejo Jo and Agent Smith).
  7. The villain is exposed to toxins or forces that brought out lighter qualities or something even better for a short amount of time. The villains under these instances were either possessed, purified, or brainwashed from an external source.
  8. The villain's crimes are exposed to the public, and they are no longer a threat or currently hiding/on the run (e.g., Bradford Buzzard).
  9. The villain spends a significant chunk of the story hiding from the heroes instead of going into action (e.g., B.P. Richfield, Ronald Taylor, Funtime Freddy, Rick Prime and Sigma).
  10. The villain, for whatever reason can only attack and commit evil at certain times and spends the rest of the time doing nothing (e.g., Charles F. Muntz spent 70 years in Paradise Falls doing nothing aside from killing other explorers and trying to catch Kevin, BoBoiBot was dormant after his creation until he was activated upon receiving a fire elemental power, SCP-4666 who only kills during a Weissnacht event, and Brock Mason who has no will to commit evil unless it's the cleanup operation).

This is the opposite to Near Pure Goods with Heating-up Periods.

They are the darker counterparts to On & Off villains.
