Carnage is a major antagonist in the 2014 action-adventure video game The Amazing Spider-Man 2, serving as one of the two titular main antagonists (alongside Cletus Kasady) of the game’s final chapter "Maximum Carnage". Initially just an Oscorp experiment, after bonded with Cletus, it developed a mind of its own and begins to manipulate Cletus to commit depraved actions.

Its Evil Ranking[]

What Makes It Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • While at first in the game, it may simply appear to be a mindless creature that was simply being controlled by Cletus, but a collectible voice recording, revealed that after it bonded to Cletus, it would start to manipulate him whilst Cletus was in his cell. It’s also revealed that the symbiote itself is the one that planted the idea of turning Ravencroft inmates into Cletus new “family” into Cletus head and promising to help Cletus slaughter as many people as possible when they are freed. This also proved, that the symbiote itself did have a moral agency and knew the difference between right and wrong.
  • It helped Cletus cause mass destruction at Ravencroft once they escaped imprisonment and helped to infect many prisoners with his Symbiote, while also leaving four big and disgusting Symbiote creatures around the prison.
  • It helped Cletus kill an innocent Cop.
  • It took over Cletus during his final fight with Spider-Man and then attempted to kill Spider-Man. There was also no proof that Cletus had any control over what was going on, as he never returned to normal after him/Carnage was beaten by Spider-Man. Cletus changing in voice after initially being beaten by Spider-Man minutes prior, further supported this.
  • While Cletus stated that the voice in his head (Carnage) wanted Cletus' friendship and promising to help him in his plans, there was no proof that it cared for his host, only using him for its own ends.
  • Although most of its crimes were shared with Cletus, it itself manipulated him into infecting Ravencroft prisoners with symbiote, making it still stand out enough in its own way.
  • If the Spider-Carnage suit was unlocked, the description had actual quote of Carnage implying to take control over Peter, though this wasn't canon.

What Prevents It from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • While it did have a moral agency, with how it manipulated Cletus with his insecurities of not having a family further proving this, it still didn’t show a lot of personality itself.
