Captain Warpclaw is a minor antagonist in Outcast of Redwall, the eight book in the Redwall novel series. He is the sadistic Corsair captain of a ship called the Gutprow who had kidnapped numerous creatures to be subjected to a life on his ships as galley slaves and even kidnapped a group of shrewbabes from the Guosim tribe to be subjected to this slavery. He would serve as the last obstacle between Sunflash and Salamandastron.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He had kidnapped plenty of creatures while sailing and subjected them to lives as galley slaves on his ship where they would be forced to row the ship's oars endlessly while being whipped by his crew.
- At one point, he and his crew had kidnapped 34 of the Guosim shrew tribe's shrewbabes, including Log-a-log's daughter, who was barely more than a season old.
- After taking them onboard, he planned on making the shrewbabes galley slaves as well in spite of how young they were while reveling in their suffering, watching in delight as they tried to avoid being hit by the whip's backlash while whimpering and squeaking in fear before threatening to have their guts for ratlines if he hears another moan out of them.
- When the ship stopped dead due to two boulders blocking the exit, he kicks the lookout into the water when he informs them of this.
- When Sunflash reveals himself and tries to get Warpclaw to return the shrewbabes, Warpclaw threatens to kill all of them if he doesn't shift the boulders.
- He attempts to kill a shrewbabe he was holding by the foot paw by trying to slice its head off with his scimitar only for Skarlath to come in and save the shrewbabe before Sunflash attacks the ship and kills Warpclaw and his crew while in Bloodwrath mode while the ship's galley slaves rescue the shrewbabes before escaping.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- While infant slavery on his scale is unique for the franchise, this isn't enough for him to pass the Heinous Standards since this still falls under child slavery, which is nothing new for Redwall, and other characters subjected numerous creatures, children included, to worse types of slavery like Blodge, a super sadistic slave driver, who overworked his slaves, children being amongst them, by constantly forcing them to row the oars of the ship while whipping them so hard he tore off hides of their backs and killed those who couldn't row anymore all while deriding so much joy from their suffering he makes a song out of it and Malkariss, who runs a whole operation where hundreds of children get kidnapped across Mossflower and get whipped and starved while doing all sorts of hard labor building his kingdom to the point of where many of them died.
Trivia[]
- He, Gabool the Wild, and Ferahgo the Assassin are the only characters from the Redwall franchise to qualify as Near Pure Evil.
