~ Caligula to Jason Grace (The Burning Maze). |
Caligula is a Roman Emperor, and one of the three main antagonists of the entire Camp Half Blood Chronicles (with Nero and Commodus). He is also one of the three main antagonists of The Trials of Apollo, and the secondary antagonist of the Tyrant's Tomb, and the main antagonist of the Burning Maze. He is an overarching antagonist of prior books as well as posthumous antagonist of The Tower of Nero.
He is a sadistic emperor-god, who seeks to replace Apollo as the new sun God, and is a member of the Triumvirate Holdings. He is the emperor from the west, and is the only villain to permanently kill a main character, Jason Grace.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He had Macro smother Emperor Tiberius so he could become the Emperor.
- He killed an incredibly large amount of people during his reign as Emperor and claimed that this could be justified as many people would say "their heart belonged to him" and he was just following their word by taking out their heart. However this isn't the case as he knows fully what they are intending on saying and is just killing them out of pure sadism or because they insulted him.
- His reign is mentioned to have been the worst out of any Emperor's and he killed anybody who didn't obey him or just killed out of sadism. This is further shown as Nero is mentioned by Meg to be afraid of him.
- After his death, Caligula switched bodyguards every day out of sheer paranoia and had his old bodyguards most likely killed in sadistic ways.
- He led a series of assaults against New Rome and many Roman demigods died in these attacks.
- Despite being mentioned to have mental issues, this isn't the case as he had a clear moral agency and is very intelligent and patient which isn't a likely trait for people who are mentally-ill.
- He didn't have any care for his fellow Emperors, Commodus and Nero and likely would have betrayed them over time and acted as their superiors. This is further shown when he treated Commodus as an inferior during The Tyrant's Tomb.
- He stabbed Jason Grace with a spear merely out of cold-blood and to frighten Apollo.
- He attempted to absorb both Apollo and Helios in order to become the sun god, and if he became the sun god he would have been way worse then both of them as he would have sadistically tortured humans.
- He was slightly responsible for the acts of Octavian and Luke Castellan as he, Nero, and Commodus supplied them with weapons. He was probably more affiliated with Octavian as Camp Jupiter was in the west and if both had succeeded then it would have resulted in the deaths of millions, with Kronos cannabilizing humans and Gaea wiping out humanity altogether.
- He forced and destroyed Meg McCaffrey and her father's home, which caused them to flee to Nero, who would later murder Meg's father, and psychologically torture Meg for years.
- He was fully responsible for the heat waves in Southern California as he told Medea to bring back Helios to the Burning Maze, who caused all of the damage and killings of Nature Spirits and humans alike. Apollo commented that, thanks to what Caligula was doing, Southern California looked more like Mordor than anything else.
- He is seen as the most heinous villain in the series due to his sadism and countless kill count. His heinousness even surpasses Kronos (albiet in sadism rather than scope), who is a deity, and is far more powerful than him. Caligula also has a few resources, which easily allows him to stand out.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He cared about his sister Julia Drusilla, as shown when he made fifty Yachts in her honor.
- He has somewhat of a tragic background, but this is further overshadowed by his thirst for power and sadism, which isn't necessarily attributed to this, so it's a minor prevention at most.
