Cala Maria is a minor antagonist in the 2022 Netflix animated series, The Cuphead Show!, serving as the main antagonist of the Season 2 episode "A High Seas Adventure!".
A seductive, but ultimately ravenous mermaid with the petrification abilities of a gorgon, she wreaks havoc on any and all ships in the ocean in hopes to build up her reputation as the "Number 1 Sea Beast". She's the love interest of Captain Brineybeard.
She was voiced by Natasia Demetriou.

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Wrecked an unknown amount of ships prior to the events of the episode, killing or petrifying anyone on them.
- Since Brineybeard was able to willingly break free from his petrification, it is likely that anyone she petrifies is still conscious.
- She admits she was going to eat Brineybeard on their date if she wasn't filled up on tiramisu.
- After encountering Brineybeard and the Cup Bros after they came to see her, she immediately petrifies the former and his parrot and indirectly causes a tidal wave, leading to their ship crashing into her lair.
- Even after Mugman complements her on her singing, she rudely cuts him off when he tries introducing himself by saying she intends to eat him and his brother, Cuphead.
- Makes one last attempt to kill Cuphead, Mugman, and Brineybeard, before letting the latter two escape for besting her. It's unknown if she did anything to Cuphead after he was blown overboard.
- Although the Cuphead franchise is pretty comedic, with The Cuphead Show! being no difference, Cala Maria stands out as one of the only villains that's taken mostly seriously and only slightly comically instead of the other way around, with her destruction of several ships being played for horror.
What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Although taken mostly seriously, she still has a few comedic moments that detract from her seriousness, such as her fixation with eating Brineybeard's "sweets", particularly the squid livers, and her talk with Brineybeard about their date.
- She has a bit of fridge horror as despite how clear of a threat she is, it's unknown how many people died from her rampage long ago.
- While she might not care for him the same way he loves her, she still has a soft spot for Brineybeard given how she appreciated his gift, admitted she did like him (even if it wasn't outright love), was polite during their conversations, and blew a kiss at him once he escaped with the Cup Bros.
- Has a sense of honor given how she gave Brineybeard, Cuphead and Mugman a ten second headstart before she started chasing them, and ultimately lets them leave once they manage to outrun her.
Trivia[]
- She, alongside the SonicDestroyer12 version, are the only variants of Cala Maria to be Near Pure Evil.
- She is the only Near Pure Evil from The Cuphead Show!, and overall the only official Cuphead NPE.
- The original game version of Cala Maria doesn't count as all her actions are out of self-defense.
