Yeah...I'm told that hurts
~ Augustine while torturing someone.

Broke Augustine is the main antagonist of InFamous: Second Son. She is the leader of the Department of Unified Protection (also known as DUP for short) and Delsin Rowe's arch-nemesis.

She was voiced by Christine Dunford.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She encased Celia (a young girl she was with) to prove her loyalty to the government, this is made worse by the fact that Celia never got over it, as seen in Celia's mission, "Paper Trails".
  • She would torture the conduits she had captured and would experiment on them in horrible ways, while lying to them that everything would be fine.
    • Delsin later discovers that the training and torture Augustine conducted were purely self-justifying for the sake of "job security". Augustine would manipulate both sides of the conflict by torturing conduits and framing them as the "monsters" the public viewed them as. This further fueled the demonization of Conduits and "need" for public safety. Augustine would then portray herself and the D.U.P as the heroic "monster hunters" to continue to protect the public, while also secretly creating said "monsters" to justify their wages.
  • She imprisoned Eugene Sims for 6 years and used his video powers to create training simulations. Torturing him if he refused to comply or tried to escape.
  • She tried to make Abigail "Fetch" Walker into one of her soldiers by teaching her how to control her powers just to use her.
  • She got several innocent people arrested by accusing them of being bio-terrorists, even when they had no actual conduit abilities.
  • She helped spread the belief that all conduits are evil and made people start to call them bio-terrorists.
  • After encountering Delsin for the first time, believing that he was hiding something from her, she threatened to torture and infect all the Akomish with her concrete poison. The first person getting infected would be Betty, an elderly woman and good friend of Delsin.
    • This is even made worse by the fact that even if Delsin chooses to tell her the truth, she will still deny it and accuse him of lying and infect all the Akomish anyway.
  • When Delsin confronted her a second time and tried to reason with her to give him some of her powers to save the Akomish people she hurt, Augustine refuses to even allow Delsin to leave Seattle alive and encases him in concrete.
  • She made a deal with Henry Daughtry that if he sold out Delsin to her, she would allow him to leave Seattle. It's even heavily implied she ordered her men to track him down even after Hank did what she asked.
  • In an attempt to kill Delsin, she infects Delsin's brother, Reggie with her concrete. This ultimately results in Reggie's death as Delsin and Reggie were hanging off a collapsing platform. Reggie sacrificed his life to prevent the concrete from infecting Delsin too, so he let go of Delsin's hand and fell to his death.
  • Upon being confronted by Delsin for the last time and before attempting to kill him, she explains her twisted motivations and is impressed that Delsin has influenced public opinion in favor of her. In good karma, she is delusional that Delsin was maintaining her illusion of the DUP's Conduit reformation, despite Delsin being the example that Humans and Conduits can coexist regardless. In evil karma, she's overjoyed with Delsin exacerbating the public hate against Conduits and taunts him for being "the best thing that ever happened to [her]."
  • While her motives for why she wants to keep the conduits safe are understandable, as the government would likely kill them if they were free on the streets, this doesn't justify her actions. Not only is she putting Conduits in a lot more pain than the government ever would, but she also is willing to hurt and kill hundreds of humans just to find conduits. This makes her a hypocrite to both conduits and humans, as she willfully hurts her own kind and betrays her military position to ensure public safety by killing humans.
    • Her hypocrisy is made clearer with the fact that Delsin (regardless of his morality and karma status) calls her out for ruining the lives of conduits by locking them away instead of improving them and for manipulating the public distrust of conduits.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She has a tragic backstory, as she lost all of her squad while fighting conduits during the massacre 7 years ago, witnessed public lynching of conduits, and was forced to imprison Celia so the military wouldn't kill her.
  • She still cares for Celia no matter how evil she became, as she only encased her so she wouldn't get killed by the military, and her voice while explaining her backstory shows that she feels remorse for doing so, stating in a teary voice "It was the only way".

Trivia[]

  • She is the only InFamous villain to be Near Pure Evil.
