Brad Chiles and Judy Reeves are supporting antagonists in the animated series Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.
They are the long-lost parents of Fred Jones, forced to abandon him after Fred Jones Sr. kidnapped the former and had them to go into hiding again. However, during their time away, they become overcome by greed and their desire for the Planispheric Disk to the point that they grow villainous.
Brad Chiles is voiced by Tim Matheson as an adult and Nolan North as a teenager, who also voiced Hal Jordan in the Tomorrowverse. As an adult, Judy Reeves is voiced by Tia Carrere, who portrayed Juno Skinner in True Lies, and Kari Wahlgren as a teenager, who voiced Mevia in Minecraft: Story Mode and Martha in Amphibia.
Their Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Them Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- While they started as altruistic mystery solvers like present-day Mystery Inc., they slowly abandoned their principles in favor of greater power and fortune.
- They pretended to want to be involved in Fred's life again as a means to steal the Planispheric Disk from Mystery Inc.
- They partook in releasing the piranha/bee/cow hybrids to destroy Crystal Cove. When Mystery Inc. try saving the town from a helicopter, they shoot it down, severely injuring their dog, Nova.
- Their involvement in Nova's injury and lack of sadness afterwards proves that they don't care for her beyond her use as a decorative item to build their facade of being a caring family in front of their son.
- They burned City Hall with invisibility suits.
- After Mr. E tries to recruit them in his takeover of the old Mystery Inc. from Professor Pericles control, they betray him, allowing for Pericles to torture his former owner into submission.
- They try to manipulate Fred into giving them the disk by pretending to be future versions of himself and Daphne. When this fails, they actively attempt to kill him.
- They enforced Professor Pericles's kidnapping and forced labor of the Crystal Cove citizens, including of their own dog while she was still recovering from the injury they caused.
- They murdered Marcie Fleach (also known as Hot Dog Water) in cold blood after she bought time for Mystery Inc. to escape.
- When the Evil Entity was released and overtook Professor Pericles, they showed no concern for their leader's safety and instead pledged their loyalty to the entity.
- Although they promised loyalty to the Evil Entity, it's out of pure narcissism rather than genuine affection.
- If they ever had any love for each other, it is long gone by the time of the series as they never show any affection for one another and are even hostile to each other later in the series.
- They are such terrible parents that Fred grows to appreciate his adopted father and kidnapper Fred Jones Sr, as while he stole him and used him as a bargaining tool, he at least showed some fatherly care, unlike Brad and Judy.
- Although it's implied that their love for Fred was once genuine, they managed to fully subvert it through their attempts to kill him during the show.
- While they have comedic moments, such as the running gag of Judy exclaiming āThatās right Bradā and Brad replying āThank you Judyā or when they mistakenly called each of their names wrong on a phone call with Mr. E, their crimes are portrayed seriously and donāt detract from their heinousness. In fact, some of their comedic traits are a facade when they meet their long lost son Fred and his friends and turn out to no longer care for him while they work for Professor Pericles.
What Prevents Them from Being Pure Evil?[]
- They fail the Heinous Standards to Professor Pericles as their worst acts were done on his orders and they don't do enough on their own to stand out from him.
- They have moral agency issues as, like Pericles, they are only greedy traitors because of the Evil Entity's influence. The alternate timeline showed they would have been good parents and pleasant people had it never existed. However, this is a minor prevention as some villains like Fred Jones Sr. and Mr. E redeemed themselves despite the Evil Entity's influence and weren't as evil as them to begin with.
