Ramsey Rosso, also known as Bloodwork, is a major antagonist in the 2014 TV series The Flash, serving as one of the two main antagonists (alongside Eva McCulloch) of Season 6 and a minor antagonist in Season 9.
He was one of the most renowned doctors in Central City and an old colleague of Caitlin Snow. After discovering he'd gotten the same fatal disease that killed his mother, Ramsey gradually descended into villainy, eventually fusing his blood with dark matter and realizing he could obtain immortality by infecting the blood of others, stopping death for his victims as well, but also turning them into his zombie slaves in the process.
He was portrayed by Sendhil Ramamurthy.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
Season 6 and EARTH-PRIME comics[]
- While contracting a terminal illness is unfortunate, Ramsey's actual motivation is to escape any form of death, even natural ones, and live forever no matter the cost. However, neither one are played for sympathy since he uses it as an excuse to take up villainy, specifically rejecting Team Flash's offer to help cure his HLH now that he'd found a way to live forever at the cost of everyone else's sentience. Additionally, his actions against the world and later the multiverse far outweigh his tragedy.
- Though him killing his dark matter dealer Mitch Romero was accidental, he covers up the murder and later experimented on Romero's body.
- After realizing he could live forever by continuously infecting people and making them afraid before he does it, he goes through with his epiphany and later smashes the Hippocratic Oath plague in his office, fully embracing his evil.
- He massacres several patients and doctors at a hospital, turning them into mindless zombies and siccing them on Flash and Killer Frost, before rejecting redemption and slitting the throat of the innocent Dr. Rodrigo simply for not being able to save his mother. He then dissolves his zombie slaves.
- After Cailtin rejects his offer to join him and that his "cure" for death was dark and twisted in an attempt to redeem him, he subverts any care for her by strangling her to near death and promising her that "next time won't be a choice."
- He absorbs much of Elongated Man's blood, leaving him on the ground to violently convulse to death.
- After Barry gives a transfusion to Ralph to save his life, Ramsey takes advantage of this to send a small droplet of his infected blood into Barry.
- He then proceeds to figure out Barry's identity and put him in a psychological torture sequence, ultimately breaking him and corrupting him into Dark Flash.
- With the help of Dark Flash, he starts a zombie apocalypse in Central City.
- He tricks Iris into meeting with Dark Flash by using Barry's voice and after she rejects his offer to join him and also points out how Ramsey's cure was destroying lives instead of saving them, he tries to make Barry kill her before Barry is secretly able to resist.
- He hijacks S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator to instantly infect everyone remaining in Central City, so he could move onto the world to turn all of humanity into his zombie slaves.
- After Team Flash foils his plot and Barry reveals he let Ramsey infect him, Ramsey turns into his Bloodwork monster form to continue his mission, before Barry is able to temporarily distract him with a vision of his mother and imprisons him in a specialized containment unit.
- He gave the Mirrorverse duplicates of Iris West-Allen and David Singh a piece of his mutated blood so Eva could escape outside of the Mirrorverse.
- When he was sent to 2049 by Magog he rampaged Keystone City.
Season 9[]
- After escaping imprisonment, he spiked the drinks of Team Flash along with Wally and Diggle during Barry's birthday celebration with his blood to knock them unconscious and slowly infect the speedsters.
- Upon realizing Chester did not drink, he sicced the other possessed heroes on him, particularly his girlfriend Allegra.
- He put Wally in a psychological torture sequence like he did Barry and successfully broke him, possessing him as another zombie slave and using him to straight up murder Barry, his surrogate brother.
- He attempted to turn the entire multiverse into his zombie slaves by having a brainwashed Wally open a gateway to the new multiverse, so he could launch his infected blood into it.
- Ramsey's threat was so dire that it required Oliver Queen/Green Arrow/Spectre to return and revive Barry Allen to stop him once for all.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Despite having a mostly self-serving motive and a massive god complex, he's a sincere extremist that genuinely believes he's doing the right thing. This is best demonstrated when he confesses to a vision of his mother that he was just trying to help humanity and sorrowfully grieves that he wasn't able to cure death and save the world in his final defeat. However, said extremism is minor considering his "cure" for death is worse than death itself and is barely played for sympathy by the narrative.
- Despite his complex relationship with his mother (deeming her a coward for accepting death), he still cared for her, killing the doctor unable to save her and having a heartfelt conversation with her when Barry brought out a vision of her from his subconscious.
- He was disgusted about Eva's willingness to dispose of her mirror duplicates, as he was uncomfortable when mirror Kamilla sacrificed herself to break the barrier of the MAC.
