If only I could see death of the world.
~ Beyond Birthday

Beyond Birthday (in Japanese: ビヨンド=バースデイ, Biyondo Bāsudei) is the main antagonist of the Death Note - Another Note: The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases prequel novel. He is also a posthumous antagonist in the anime and manga series Death Note.

Little is known about Beyond, though he was one of the first people to succeed L at the Wammy’s house. After L had tracked cases around the world to search for him, he came up with a plan to surpass L as the "World's Greatest Criminal," giving L a case that Beyond hoped he would be unable to solve.

He was "born" with Shinigami Eyes, which allowed him to see and know when exactly people around him would die, as well as knowing their full names.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He is very sadistic, as seen when he used his ability to pick his victims and kill them when they would have been destined to die, and this was more proven with his horrific way of killing people.
  • He killed the freelance writer Believe Bridesmaid; to do that, he drugged him and then choked him with a rope. and in post-body damage, Bridesmaid's chest got slashed several times; he was also redressed.
  • He killed, four days later, Quarter Queen, a 13-year-old girl who was also being drugged. And the way he killed her was very brutal, as he forced trauma to the child's skull to kill her. He also crushed her eyes, which were also crushed in further post-mortem mutilation.
  • Nine days later, after Quarter Queen's murder. He killed a woman, Backyard Bottomslash, who had also been drugged before her death, and before killing her, he wanted to find out if a human can die of an internal hemorrhage without rupturing any organs. So he tortured her with this experiment: drugging and then beating Backyard Bottomslash's left arm without breaking the skin. When this did not work, her death was caused by a loss of blood, with her right leg and left arm cut off. The right leg was discovered in the bathtub later.
  • It's theorised and implied throughout the novel that he's a cannibal, as one of his hobbies is eating strawberry jam; since he's a killer, it's implied that the jam could be his victims's blood. Later, he even took the left arm of Backyard Bottomslash for himself, implying that he ate it.
  • Unlike the other villains in the series, Beyond stands out with his unique set of crimes. He passes the standards due to him giving fates worse than death to his victims, killing solely for pleasure, and having the most brutal deaths in the series, even if he doesn’t even have a Death Note, so he doesn’t fail to the Death Note holders, who all have much more resources than him.
  • His drive to do all of this is only for pleasure, as he wanted and wished to be the worst criminal in the world.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He has moral agency issues since he was born with shinigami eyes, making him naturally twisted and anormal, and this is seen when Mello said it did affect him. However, he was educated at Wammy’s house alongside Mello and Near afterwards, so this is a minor prevention.
