Axel Palmer is the main antagonist of the 1981 slasher film My Bloody Valentine.

He was a miner for the Hanniger Mining Company, going on a killing spree dressed like Harry Warden, the town's legendary murderer, as a result of his hatred for Valentine's Day. This happened due to a traumatic event in Axel's past, as the film reveals throughout the plot.

He was portrayed by Neil Affleck. As a child, he was portrayed by Jeff Banks. In-costume scenes as The Miner were portrayed by Peter Cowper.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Taking a woman to the mine only to kill her, rip her heart out, and send it to the police along with a warning note.
  • Killing Mabel Osborne the same way as her first victim.
  • Impaling Happy through the jaw with a pickaxe to stab his eye and heart out.
  • Drowning Dave in boiling water before carving his heart out.
  • Impaling Sylvia through the head with a water pipe.
  • Stabbing Mike and Harriet off-screen with an auger.
  • Shooting Hollis twice in the head with a nail gun.
  • Hanging Howard using a rope off-screen.
  • Using a pickaxe to stab Patty in the stomach.
  • Deceived his friends by faking his own death to avoid suspicion and make it easier to kill them.
  • He shows absolutely zero remorse for any of his crimes at any point during the film.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He has a tragic past, having witnessed his father die in front of him on Valentine's Day at the mines.
  • He still seems to have at least some affection for her girlfriend Sarah. But the fact that he still isn't above trying to kill her makes this a minor prevention. He also cares for his father and his death is the reason for his villainy.
  • He has moral agency issues, given how he genuinely believes he can talk to Harry Warden (someone who had died a long time ago).
