Arlong is the main antagonist from the East Blue Saga and the Arlong Park Arc from One Piece. He was a former member of the Sun Pirates led by Fisher Tiger, in which after his death, he formed his own pirate crew called "The Arlong Pirates" alongside other former members of the Sun Pirates. He is also the archenemy of Nami.

He is voiced by Jurota Kosugi in the Japanese version and by Chris Rager in the Funimation English dub. In the live-action Netflix adaptation, he is portrayed by McKinley Belcher III.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He generally considers humans to be inferior beings, and is very cruel towards them.
  • Took control of Kokoyashi Island with his crew.
  • Kills humans who don't have enough money and forces the other humans to give money or they die.
  • He killed Bellemere, who was Nami and Nojiko's adoptive mother, to set an example to the rest of the villagers as to what would happen if they don't pay him.
  • Tricked and manipulated Nami to join his crew as a map maker for his crew, thinking he would free his village and spare everyone if she managed to get 100 millions of Berries until Arlong betrays her by making a marine steal all of her earned money since 10 years.
  • Was incredibly mean to Koala despite her being a child.
  • While many villains are worse, Arlong only has his money, crew and strength, and is also rather personal.
  • He would give speeches that later inspired Hody Jones to try to commit genocide against humanity. While Hody already hated humans and is fully responsible for his villainy, Arlong is practically responsible for giving him the idea.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He has a genuine tragedy of being mistreated by humans due to his race and losing his captain Fisher Tiger to them, which caused him to resent humanity.
  • Despite his crimes against humans, he cares deeply about his fellow Fishmen, getting angry when Luffy used one of his men as a shield. Hatchan even outright says that Arlong would never hurt his fellow Fishmen even if they disagree with his belief.

Trivia[]

  • Arlong is the second One Piece villain to be Near Pure Evil.
