~ Arges calling out to Hercules. |
The Cyclops (referred to as "Arges" in the tabletop game Villainous) is a major antagonist in Disney's 1997 animated film Hercules. He is summoned near the film's climax. As his name implies, this character is a Cyclops. Though his appearance in the film was fairly short, the Cyclops was still an incredibly destructive and powerful force to be reckoned with. The Cyclops is one of the five Titans who was imprisoned by Zeus, and set free by Hades. Although his fellow Titans set off to attack Mt. Olympus, Hades gave him the special job of personally disposing of a weakened and powerless Hercules.
He was voiced by Patrick Pinney, who also voiced Lythos in the same film.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Most likely like all other Titans he caused all kinds of misery to mankind for what he was imprisoned with other titans by Zeus.
- On Hades' orders, he went to Thebes to kill Hercules. He also started destroying the city of his own free will as Hades only ordered him to take care of Hercules, showing that he wasn't only following his orders.
- Destroyed numerous buildings and caused likely hundreds of deaths to provoke Hercules to fight him.
- While it might at first seem like he is just destroying some buildings, the roof ends up crushing several people, giving him an actual kill count compared to the other Titans, who are only implied to kill thousands during their rampages. Also, considering the fact that he ended up causing massive destruction in Thebes, he is implied to have a kill count in the hundreds. While not as impressive as other Titans, not only does he have no additional powers like them aside from brute strength, he also ends up being more personal to Hercules by causing the death of Megara.
- Brutally beats Hercules near to death and attempted to finish him by biting his head off.
- His destruction caused Megara to be crushed by a pillar, resulting in her being mortally wounded and dying later.
- His death, which included being burned in his eye with a broken piece of wood and falling to his death, while brutal, was not played for sympathy.
- He is treated completely seriously by the narrative and despite him beating Hercules in a bit of an over the top manner, it still doesn't detach from his crimes.
- He is arguably the most personal enemy to Hercules next to Hades, because of his actions resulting in the temporary death of Megara.
- Much like the Titans, their relationship is too ambiguous to make it a redeeming quality.
- Unlike his fellow Titans, he has a personality and is shown to be sadistic with an evil laugh.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He might be truly loyal to his uncle Hades as he listened to his order to kill Hercules instead of going with other Titans to take revenge on Zeus.
- He slightly fails the Heinous Standards to the other Titans due the fact that he was less destructive than them. However, due the fact that he ended up being the reason why Megara died and being clearly the weakest of them all, it is a very minor prevention.
