Aresia is a minor antagonist in Justice League, serving as the main antagonist of the two-parter Season 1 episode "Fury".

She is a rogue Amazonian who left Themyscira, and became determined to purge the planet Earth of all male life. She is also the adoptive sister of Wonder Woman and the adoptive daughter of Hippolyta, the Queen of Themyscira.

She was voiced by Julie Bowen.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She caught the members of Lex Luthor's then-defunct Injustice Gang, minus the lunatic Joker, the traitor Ultra-Humanite and Cheetah, by recruiting a new female member, Tsukuri. The villains broke into a Gotham Biotech facility where they stole a vial with a plant sample inside.
  • While they were leaving, they were intercepted by Batman, who she manages to surprise with her Amazonian strength and throw into a hallway, which knocked him out.
  • She then infected Superman with an allergen she developed to target only males.
  • She developed more allergens, with which she robbed the gang and went on to infect the city's population, leaving only female firefighters, police officers, paramedics and whatever work they were required to take control. The first subjects in the experiment were Injustice members Shand, Copperhead and Salomon Grundy, although they survived to join other organizations in the Anti-Justice League.
  • Just before Aresia starts laying out her master plan for action, the unaffected Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl come with Hippolita to face Aresia, Star Sapphire and Tsukuri.
  • Even when Hippolyta talks about the brave acts of the captain and how Aresia would not have lived if not for the captain of the ship, a man, Aresia states that he was different, and continues to pursue her main plan to make all men pay.
  • During a battle aboard a jet, she attempts to gas the entire world with the anti-male toxin using missiles, Star Sapphire is launched into the ocean in the crossfire.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She has a genuine tragedy that still holds up despite her actions, as she was born in a war torn country which she and her mother tried to escape from, only for the boat they were in to be destroyed by pirates and Aresia being the sole survivor. She was then adopted by the Amazons, who were against men, which explains why she grew to have misandristic views in the present.
  • She has respect for the captain that sacrificed himself for her.

Trivia[]

  • According to Justice League writer Rich Fogel, Tsukuri assisted Aresia in her plot to purge the world from all men due to having romantic feelings for her, which would explain why she was helping her even though the plot wouldn't make her rich like the Injustice Gang thought. If it were confirmed that Aresia had feelings for Tsukuri too, that would give her another prevention.
  • Aresia is, alongside Thoth Khepera and Paran Dul, one of the two Near Pure Evils of the DC Animated Universe to be female.
