ā€œ ARE YOU REPULSED BY MY APPEARANCE? DON'T BE AFRAID TO HURT MY FEELINGS. THEY'RE ALREADY HURT. YOU SEE, I WAS CREATED FROM ALL THAT WAS LOST DURING THE DIGIVOLVING PROCESS. ā€ž
~ Apocalymon
ā€œ DO YOU THINK IT'S FAIR THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO LIVE WITH ALL THIS AGONY? WHY SHOULD YOU GET TO LAUGH WHILE I AM FORCED TO CRY? WHY DO YOU GET TO TASTE THE BEST THAT LIFE HAS TO OFFER, WHILE ALL I DO IS CHOKE ON ITS LEFTOVERS?! ANSWER ME THIS! WHY DO ALL OF YOU GET THE PIZZA, WHILE I GET THE CRUST?! ā€ž
~ Apocalymon

Apocalymon is the main antagonist of the 1999-2000 series Digimon Adventure, the first anime installment of the Digimon franchise.

He was voiced the Japanese version by the late Chikao Ohtsuka, who also voiced Dr. Eggman in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. In the English dub, he was voiced by Paul St. Peter.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He is responsible for everything that happened in the series, such as the actions done by Devimon, Etemon, and Myotismon, and later, the reign of the Dark Masters.
  • When fighting the DigiDestined and their Digimon, he reverts the Digimon to their Rookie forms an destroys the Crests needed for Digivolution.
  • He briefly imprisoned the DigiDestined sent to a binary prison only for them to escape.
  • Upon being cornered by the DigiDestined and their Digimon, he attempted to destroy both the Real and Digital Worlds by using his ultimate self-destruction attack Total Annihilation only for the Digivices to contain the explosion.
  • Even after his death, his actions still have an effect on the series as the time between the Real and Digital Worlds were synchronized, which forced the DigiDestined to leave behind their Digimon for the time being. A fragment of him would also manifest as Meicoomon, thus indirectly influencing the events of Adventure Tri.
  • Although he has several comedic moments, most notably in the English dub where he says "WHY DO ALL OF YOU GET THE PIZZA, WHILE I GET THE CRUST?!", they don't detract from his villainy as he is completely taken seriously by the narrative.
  • He is easily the most heinous antagonist in not just this anime series but the Adventure continuity as a whole, as trying to blow up both the Real and Digital Worlds is something that no one else had went as far in going to.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He has a tragic backstory as he is a gestalt of countless Digimon who have perished from natural evolution, which resulted in him being confined to a world of darkness where he was left to watch the other Digimon rejoicing in happiness, which is the driving force behind their plans. However, he is treated by the DigiDestined and the narrative as a threat that needs to be stopped and his death is played for satisfaction, which makes this a minor prevention.
    • Due to the above factors, he suffers from slight moral agency issues as him being an amalgam of deceased Digimon would have influenced his world view. However, he still did act on his own volition and not out of impulse.

Trivia[]

  • He is currently the only Digimon Near Pure Evil.
