~ Anthony Lilliman to Evey Hammond. |
Bishop Anthony Lilliman, commonly referred to as Anthony Lilliman, is a supporting antagonist of the 2006 dystopian political action film V for Vendetta, which is based on the graphic novel of the same name.
He is a lecherous priest who works for the Norsefire Party as the Bishop of the Church of England. However, Lilliman secretly uses his position to have sex with underage girls after mass. He is based on the comic book character of the same name.
He was portrayed by Sir John Standing.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Served the Norsefire Party as the Chaplain of the Larkhill Ressetlement Camp, a concentration camp where all England inhabitants who didn't fit the Norsefire Party's Aryan ideal, like those who were political left-wingers, had other ethnicities than Caucasian or were members of the LGBT community were sent to be tortured and killed due to not "changing their ways".
- Despite that a Christian priest's job is to help others, and that he was hired to give "spiritual support" to Larkhill's inmates, he wasn't of any help at Larkhill, allowed the inmates to be tortured, mutated and/or killed without batting an eye.
- Indeed, while working at Larkhill, he seemingly got along with Commander Lewis Prothero, who abused the inmates very often.
- After being undeservedly promoted to Bishop of Westminster, he started employing an special sex agency which sent him underage girls every Sunday so he could "spend" time with them during the "Children's hour", i.e. an hour which he used to molest, abuse and rape them.
- Treats Christianity and religion as a joke, not doing what he preaches, asking himself how the Lord will tempt him with the Seven Deadly Sins, referring to confessionals as "games" with his victims and even hiding a gun inside a Bible, all which are a total blasphemic offense to the Catholic Church.
- Complains that Evey Hammond was "too older" for him, due to pedophiles being mainly or solely focused on prepubescents, but nonetheless tried to force himself onto her, even when Evey was pleading him to hear her warnings about V's intentions to kill him.
- Tries to attack Evey after she defends herself from him by kicking him in the groin.
- Before meeting his death at V's hands, he takes his gun and shoots at V to kill him, even when one of the Ten Commandments is to never kill, proving what an hypocrite he is.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He fails the In-Story Standards to Adam Sutler, Peter Creedy and Lewis Prothero, since Sutler and Creedy coordinate most of Norsefire's atrocities and Prothero not only abused Larkhill's prisoners but engineered a virus that killed countless people. However, as rape is a very disturbing crime in general, this is a minor prevention.
- This is also due to the fact that unlike his comic book counterpart, he isn't given an extensive history of victims and is never shown if he possesses a child pornography stash.
Trivia[]
- Only the film version of Anthony Lilliman is Near Pure Evil, as the comic book version of Lilliman is much more disgusting and stands out along with Lewis Prothero, as Adam Susan (Adam Sutler's original counterpart) and Creedy are less heinous than in the film.
- Although Lilliman was acknowledged as a Near Pure Evil villain and despite having committing negligence and rape, Evey Hammond felt responsibility over her role in his death. However, this does not disqualify Lilliman from being Near Pure Evil, as his death wasn't played for sympathy, in addition that Evey's regret may have been more directed to her participating in orchestrating a death, given Evey's goodness. Alas, Evey may have also changed her opinion of her participation in Lilliman's death after she learned about his role at Larkhill.
