His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Upon becoming the president of Yara, he establishes an iron-fisted rule which would lead to a revolution and violence throughout it, with dozens-hundreds of deaths.
- He enslaved many people in extremely harsh conditions at tobacco fields and had his men kill people who refused to obey him or even did nothing at all.
- In Diego's thirteen birthday, Antón brought him into a forrest and put his life in danger by putting some bait close to Diego, which almost caused him to get killed by an alligator. He also tried to make him kill a jaguar cub, although he refused.
- In his introductory scene, he had a fishing boat with civilians destroyed by gunfire, killing everyone on it except for Dani.
- He tries to force Diego to kill Julio to teach him about True Yarans and Fake Yarans. When he refuses, he had General Raul beat Julio to death.
- Although he disapproves José for killing Carlos Montero, it's because he was a deeply respected leader in the region where 80% of his soldiers are recruited. His death makes him a martyr and ensures that less people are now going to join the army that killed someone with such high approval.
- He had Diego shot José for shooting his bird, although he deserves it.
- He had several members of the La Moral and Legends murdered.
- He coerces Dani into becoming his general. After Juan's assassination attempt was exposed, he murders Clara in front of Dani.
- He tortured Dani for trying to sell Viviro to America. After "sparing" Dani, he threw a grenade into the cell room while he and Diego escape.
- Out of spite of Yara being blockaded for 47 years, he makes America and other countries wait for the Viviro, prompting a lot of people to suffer by cancer.
- Despite the series' Heinous Standards as well as competing with several heinous villains, Castillo easily exceeds the Heinous Standards with his personal and brutality of them.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He had a genuinely tragic backstory. His father Gabriel was executed in front of him, he was sentenced for fifteen years of hard labor, and after his mother died, he begins to develop leukemia. Even if it doesn't justify some of heinous actions, it's still played for sympathy.
- Regardless of how much he sees him as an heir for his legacy, he does love Diego to an extent, healing his wounds after punching an guerrilla member, and guiding him out from being assassinated by Juan. He also saved his life from a crocodile (even if he was the one who put his life in danger) and spared a jaguar cub after Diego refused to kill it. Even when he kills him in the finale, it's out of mercy due to his mistrust towards Dani, even going as far to committing suicide after doing so.
- He loves his family, as well as Maria, since he mentioned his mother was a wonderful teacher who taught him during his years in prison, and respected his father to an extent. When Maria dies, he solemnly tells Diego she died, and allows him to grieve properly. He also has some care for his friend Raùl Sanchez, and upon his death appears noticeably saddened despite not punishing Diego for it.
Trivia[]
- In a video posted by Ubisoft, Giancarlo Esposito referred to Antón Castillo as the "most monstrous villain" he has ever played. However, Esposito has also played Moff Gideon, who was voted to be Pure Evil.
- He also played the Dentist, the villain of Pay Day 2 who almost litetally caused the end of the world. In addition to this, Esposito's most iconic character, Gustavo Fring was formerly considered as Near Pure Evil, but was changed to Inconsistently Heinous due to his numerous disqualifying characteristics.
- He is the first Far Cry main villain to be Near Pure Evil.
