He would've died anyway, we gotta think about LIVING!
~ Andrew St. John talking about killing Mark, after his cannibalism is revealed.

Andrew St. John is a major antagonist in the first season of Telltale Games' The Walking Dead, serving as one of the three main antagonists (alongside his mother and brother) of the second episode "Starved For Help".

Although at first they appeared friendly towards Lee and his band of survivors, they were eventually revealed to be deceptive cannibals, who resorted to murder and cannibalism in an effort to stay alive during the zombie apocalypse.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • When the apocalypse broke out, he, along with his mother and younger brother, became cannibals, trapping people to their dairy farm and butchering them for meat. Some of these people possibly include their farmhands.
  • Butchered their victims alive instead of killing them first, so the meat didn't become "tainted", as explained by his brother Danny.
  • They also used their victims' meat for trading it with the other groups, including Save-Lots Bandits. It is most likely that the groups are not aware of what they are eating, or yet to realize, as Jolene seems to know it, which makes the situation worse.
  • Placed around bear traps in the woods to catch anyone. Those bear traps were seen before as David Parker got caught on one and caused his death, and Travis' indirectly.
  • While unclear, it seems that he deliberately turns on the perimeter fences while Lee and Mark are checking them for weak points, in order to remove them as obstacles in his intentions to take the rest of their group to be used as trade meat.
  • After Mark got shot by the bandits, Brenda takes him to her dairy farm while claiming that she will look after him. In reality, it is later revealed that the family drugged Mark, cut his legs off for meat and abandoned him to die in a bathroom, well-hidden behind a bookshelf.
  • They serve Mark's legs as dinner to the group, tricking Duck, Larry and determinately Clementine into eating human meat.
  • After the group realized they're cannibals, Brenda and Andrew tried to justify their actions by claiming that all of their actions for surviving. However, it was out of delusion more than anything else when considering his following actions, and unlike his mother, he had never shown even slight remorse or reluctance for his actions.
  • After their true colors are revealed, he takes Clementine hostage by pulling her hair to make the group stay where they are. His way of grabbing Clementine makes Lee trim her hair in order to not suffer from the same thing by another person or zombie.
  • Imprisons all of the survivors -except Katjaa and Duck who are taken hostage separately- to the meat locker. This later made Larry have a heart attack and murdered by Kenny, which sends Lilly into a spiral -which makes him responsible for her behavior afterwards- and everything else going downhill.
  • It is possible that he knows about Danny's arguably pedophilic intentions, as it can be inferred from when Andrew said that they could keep one to live, Danny excitedly asked if he can choose, to which Andrew specifically replied with “Not the girl, not enough meat on her.”
  • Had the group couldn't free themselves from the locker, the family would choose one to keep alive and use them for meat, and kill rest of them, including Clementine and Duck.
  • After Brenda's death, he takes Duck hostage with a rifle, threatens the group and shoots Kenny in front of his son. While he claims he is not willing to hurt Duck, he does not let the child go until he is forced to by being distracted by Carley/Doug.
  • Although he and his family broke the peace by killing Mark, Andrew unfairly blames Lee and his group with ruining everything.
  • After he is distracted by Carley/Doug, he fights Lee to death and attempts to kill him by trying to shoot him with a rifle and electrocute him by pushing him into the fence.
  • After his defeat, he threatens Lee once more by saying that he will kill them with his family, without being aware that his family died minutes ago.
  • While he is slightly outclassed in heinousness by Danny for the latter having some additional offenses, this does not detract Andrew's villainy, nor does this make him fail the standards.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He genuinely loves his mother and brother, and will be devastated upon hearing of their deaths. He also cares about his late father and wants to take care of the dairy farm in his father's memory.
  • His defeat is portrayed with some sympathy.
    • If he is spared by Lee, Andrew will break down in sorrow, losing the will to live, crying while the group is leaving the farm and shouting at Lee to come back and kill him too. This makes him somewhat of a scapegoat compared to his brother Danny.
    • One of the two optional death scenes of him is also somewhat played for sympathy, as Lee's group looks on in horror at Andrew getting electrocuted.

Trivia[]

  • The sympathy played during his defeat scene significantly affects players' choices, as out of both brothers, players were more apt to kill Danny, the more sadistic one whose defeat is not played with any sympathy, while opting to spare Andy. According to gaming statistics, 55% of players chose to kill Danny, while a notable 20% chose to kill Andy.
  • Andrew was originally considered to be Inconsistently Heinous for a while until it was decided that his preventions are not severe enough to disqualify him from NPE.
