There are only two types of people left in this world: the ones brave enough to walk with the dead, and everyone else.
~ Alpha.

Alpha, real name Dee, is major antagonist in the AMC series The Walking Dead, serving as the main antagonist for Season 9 and the first half of Season 10, and also the titular villainous protagonist of the Tales of The Walking Dead episode titled Dee.

She is the leader of The Whispers and the mother of Lydia, who wishes to purify the world into their animalistic qualities.

She was portrayed by Samantha Morton.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

Background[]

  • She murdered her own father when she was 9 years old. Although, she claims he “deserved it.”
  • She was mentally, emotionally, physically abusive to her daughter, Lydia, even before the apocalypse.
  • While hiding in the bunker, she murdered a man who was having a panic attack in order to silence him. While this could be seen as justified, since his panicking would have drawn the attention of walkers, there's no reason why he couldn't have been subdued non-lethally. Additionally, this later caused the basement to overrun when he reanimated, resulting in numerous deaths.
  • She murdered her husband and Lydia’s father Frank and then lied to Lydia about him being abusive. While she later stated that she didn't want to kill him, she also says she was happy to have done it nonetheless.

Tales From The Walking Dead[]

  • Even though she was given a good life with her daughter on the steamboat, she still had cultist and primitive views of the world and wished for tragedy to strike them and others.
  • She left all of the people on the steamboat to die during the shootout with Billy and lied to Lydia about them turning on the two. This causes the death of everyone on the steamboat but Brooke, which Dee shows no remorse for.
  • While not killing Brooke, she mutilates her face by cutting a large wound on it to “teach her a lesson”
  • She murdered the previous leader of the Whisperers Hera and became the de-facto leader.

The Walking Dead[]

  • She becomes a ruthless leader of the Whisperers and was responsible for pillaging and killing dozens of people.
  • She kidnapped and murdered 10 people (including 3 teenagers) at the fair and decapitated them all, including forcing Siddiq to watch it happen so he could send a message to the communities. This led to him suffering from PTSD.
  • She has no qualms about murdering children or kids, such as when she made Frances abandon her baby to be eaten by walks for crying too loud (calling it ‘natural selection’) and when she murdered Henry, Addy, and Rodney (who were all teenagers).
  • She was needlessly cruel to her own people and doesn’t seem to care about them on a personal level and even murders a few of them for very slight inconveniences.
  • She taunted Carol about how her adopted son Henry's murder, and laughs at how he was screaming Carol's name when he died.
  • He attacked the Alexandrians by sending constant hordes of walkers, poisoning their water, and causing paranoia and destruction, all with the help of Dante (who she sent as a spy) and her second-in-command Beta.
  • When Lydia refused to kill her while she was injured, she planned on wiping out all the communities with her army of walkers out of pure spite, while also claiming that she would enjoy it.
  • Due to believing her love for Lydia was making her weak, she tried to murder her while also claiming that it was her "destiny".
  • Overall, Alpha is shown to be a ruthless, sick, and delusional person, who justified any and of her actions no matter how heinous, even before becoming the leader of the whisperers.
  • Unlike Shane, The Governor, Gareth, and Negan who all had some sort of tragic backstory or Freudian excuse for why they became who they were, Alpha has none and is shown to have always been a sadistic person (even before the apocalypse) and only truly cares about herself. Even her love for Lydia is extremely twisted, which she subverted anyway by trying to kill her.
    • While it is implied that she had an abusive father, it isn’t confirmed and wouldn’t explain any of her actions or make her sympathetic.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She had a tremendous amount of respect for both Beta and Negan, the latter of whom she showed compassion for when he talked about his late wife Lucille.
