YOU B*TCH! YOU STUPID VINDICTIVE B*TCH! MAYBE YOUR TIME'S UP N' ALL!
~ Alan Bradley rages at Rita Fairclough after she learns of his heinous deeds.
COME BACK, YOU STUPID B*TCH!
~ Alan Bradley's famous last words during his final bid to get Rita Fairclough, before he is killed by an oncoming tram.

Alan Bradley was a fictional character and major antagonist of the British soap opera Coronation Street, debuting in January 1986 and becoming the show's main antagonist up until his departure when he is killed-off in December 1989.

He was portrayed by the late Mark Eden.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He two-timed his girlfriend Rita Fairclough by having a fling with local barmaid Gloria Todd.
  • He brutally attacked wayward resident Terry Duckworth in The Rovers Return for insulting him and pestering Gloria as well as Alan's daughter Jenny (though this may have been somewhat justified as Terry taunted Alan seconds before this).
  • When Rita declined his marriage proposal, he planned to lure her under the pretext that they had been invited to a friend's wedding - only to plan their own surprise wedding.
  • He forced Jenny to stay in Weatherfield with him and Rita instead of allowing her to travel the world for her exams as she had hoped to do.
  • He cheated on Rita again by having an affair with his client Carol Burns. When he was caught out in the end, Alan blamed Rita for this and manipulated her into taking him back. Thereafter he cut ties with Gloria completely and dismissed her when she visited him wanting to know why he ignored her.
  • He stole the deeds to Rita's house and remortgaged it for £15,000 by posing as Rita's late husband Len Fairclough.
  • He sexually harassed his receptionist Dawn Prescott by claiming that his relationship with Rita is not passionate. Then when she rejected his advances, Alan attempted to rape her.
  • When Rita discovered the extent of Alan's heinous deeds truth and visited the building society, exposing Alan's lies and confiriming Len's state in the process, Alan punched Rita in the face and then attempted to suffocate her in a fit of rage - nearly killing her until the intervention of both Jenny and her boyfriend Martin Platt saved her life from Alan's clutches.
  • After being arrested for attacking Rita a week earlier, Alan wrongfully believed that Jenny lured him into a trap and denounced until the officers told him otherwise. Even then he never apologised to Jenny for believing that she turned against him. Plus when she visited him in prison, Alan only asked for her help in getting him out - not once did he show concern for her wellbeing or Rita's recovery.
  • Once he is released from prison, Alan resolved to get revenge on Rita. He later visited her at her house while she was alone, demanding to know where his daughter Jenny was. Rita then ordered Alan to leave her house, but he refused and continuted to intimidate her - leaving her petrified.
  • After reuniting with Jenny following his release from prison, Alan wooed Jenny into believing that he is a changed man since his time in prison and that Rita is being vindictive towards him. In doing so, Alan turned Jenny against Rita and inflicted a strain on their surrogate mother-daughter relationship in the process.
  • When he is accused of killing Rita Fairclough after she mysteriously disappeared, Alan got drunk at The Rovers Return, which prompted pensioner Percy Sugden to confront him on Rita's whereabouts. He then threatened to punch the pensioner. This prompted Percy's friends Don Brennan, Alf Roberts and Jack Duckworth to stand up to Alan. Thereafter he grabbed a bottle and prepared to attack them (though his reaction may have been somewhat justified as he had not in fact killed Rita).
  • After discovering that Rita had fled to Blackpool to escape his torment, which had caused her to have a nervous breakdown, he again swore revenge on her - not even caring about her wellbeing in the process. He soon drove to Blackpool and forced his way into the hotel where Rita was staying, only to find her best friend Bet Lynch staying there instead. He then became threatening and demanded to know where Rita was, declaring that he would find her one way or the other. As he returned to his car, he spotted Rita and demanded that she get in his car. He then violently grabbed Rita, forcing her into the passenger seat. After Rita ran out of the car, he chased her across the road, in a final bid to get her. They then end up running in the direction of an oncoming tram. Rita narrowly missed this, but Alan got struck by the tram, killing him instantly, and ending his reign of terror.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Alan genuinely cared for his daughter Jenny to the point where he seemed willing to protect her at all costs. As such, his intense disliking of Terry Duckworth may have been somewhat justified due to Terry's selfish and despicable nature.
