“ | Did you think that you could walk right in here and simply dispose of me? I am Akar Kessell, you fool! The Tyrant of Icewind Dale! I command the greatest army that has ever marched on the frozen steppes of this forsaken land! | „ |
~ Akar Kessell. |
Akar Kessell is a major antagonist of The Forgotten Realms. He is a major antagonist of R.A Salvatore's The Legend of Drizzt, serving as the main antagonist of The Crystal Shard, and a major antagonist in the of Neverwinter: Curse of Icewind Dale and Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance.
He was the young, talentless, and pathetic apprentice of the wizard Morkai the Red, who, after a poorly though-out bid for power, was left to die in the desolate Icewind Dale. However, his life was saved by the discovery of a powerful and sentient magical artifact known as the Crenshinibon. Empowered by the Crenshinibon, he raised and army and set out to conquer Icewind Dale.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- In general, he is a pathetic but incredibly ruthless individual, who would do anything to gain power and almost never takes responsibility for his actions. He believes himself to be more powerful and therefore more deserving than everyone else and his lust for power was so great that even the Crenshinibon had couldn't handle it.
- Although he has the Freudian excuse of being mocked and manipulated for being naturally less powerful than those around him, it doesn't justify his actions even remotely.
- He murdered his own mentor and father figure for the chance at power.
- He tried to kill a cat with magic for practice.
- Upon discovering the Crenshinibon, he created a crystal tower for himself and enslaved the local monster groups in order to conquer the Ten-towns (the ten towns in Icewind Dale, the smallest of which being slightly larger than a village and the largest being a city).
- He took control of the barbarian tribes and added them to his army of monsters.
- He kidnapped young women and used the Crenshinibon to brainwash them into being his sex-slaves.
- He enlisted the balor Errtu as his right-hand in order to spread needless destruction.
- He had his armies invade and pillage the Ten-towns, killing thousands.
- He personally sweeps a ray of the Crenshinibon's through one of the towns, resulting in almost everything in the vicinity being burned to the ground.
- As a lich, he used black ice to make weapons and attempted to stage another attack on Icewind Dale.
- He planned to conquer bigger cities and kill even more people.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Although he was willing to kill his mentor before he found the Crystal Shard and every atrocity he commits is of his own free will, his worst actions are done under the influence of the Crenshinibon, which at the very least made him more ambitious. This makes his moral agency questionable.
- He briefly felt remorse for murdering Morkai, suggesting that he had some care for his mentor.
