Anatoly Andreevich Motsny, better known by his alias Abaddon, is a character in the Hearts of Iron IV mod The New Order: Last Days of Europe. He serves as a side antagonist in the After Midnight update, which occurs when Sergey Taboritsky, the Blessed Regent of the Holy Russian Empire, dies. Motsny serves as the leader of the Brotherhood of Cain, a League of satanists based in Omsk. Despite being only one of the post-midnight warlords, Motsny manages to stand out amongst all of them thanks to his sheer cruelty and insanity.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Before turning to his Abaddon alias, Motsny already served under Taboritsky, helping the delusional regent in his purges of Jews, cripples, homosexuals, political enemies, turkic people, and other undesirables.
  • While Motsny betrays the Russian Empire, it isn't out of any genuine standards or remorse, but rather due to finding out Taboritsky was a half-Jew and believing that God is a Jew due to Taboritsky "believing" in him.
  • Turns to violent Satanism in order to spite god, adopting the name Abaddon and wearing a bloodied mask.
  • Commits human sacrifices with his other Sturmoviki by abducting and killing people in the metro system the Black League built during their rule over Omsk.
  • Releases several criminals and murders to aid him and help abduct innocent civilians.
  • In his ambiguously canon reunification event, Abaddon continues his reign by gleefully committing sacrifices and mass murders, this time across all of Russia beyond Moscowien.
  • Unlike almost every other TNO villain, including Taboritsky himself, Abaddon has no redeeming qualities, and not a moment of sympathy is shed on him, with his excuse being extremely petty.
  • Despite the high heinous standard of TNO, Abaddon passes due to his brutal deaths in his sacrifices, ranging from being burned alive or gutted, and his low resources.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He has moral agency issues, as not only did he become a Satanist while on drugs, he sees demonic spirits pressing against his skull and thinks his eyes tried to jump out of his sockets while sacrificing a woman. Despite this, Abaddon shows a personality, and knows about evil and good due to believing Satan to be the true savior and that Taboritsky and God are vile, so this is a minor prevention.

Trivia[]

  • He, alongside Sergey Taboritsky, Adolf Hitler, Trofim Lysenko, and Andrey Dikiy, is one of the five The New Order: Last Days of Europe characters to be Near Pure Evil.
    • He and Dikiy are the only NPE characters in TNO to be post-Midnight warlords.
  • In real life, Motsny is believed to have been Jewish. If this was confirmed in-universe, this would make Abaddon even worse, given he'd have betrayed Taboritsky for a hypocritical reason and become just like him.
  • Abaddon is so heinous, he's the only TNO villain so far to have his page be marked as mature.
