You bodyguard for the Brancos. They are all dead! You help the poor. Today, many of them dead! You're a proper American hero!
~ Neves taunting Max at the Imperial Palace Hotel.
[Sarcastically claps] Well done with your effort! The whole city is grateful, the great American savior of the poor!
~ Neves sarcastically "congratulating" Max.
Neves: I told you the city was dangerous, friend.
Max: Yeah, I kind of like it. It's growing on me.
Neves: [Laughs] Nice to see a happy tourist is smiling!
~ Neves and Max, before the former is shot in the head by Passos.

Álvaro Neves is a major antagonist in the 2012 third-person shooter game Max Payne 3, the third and final installment of the Max Payne video game series.

He is a Brazilian criminal, the founder and leader of the Crachá Preto militia, abusing his authority to crush any criminal gangs on his way. In 2012, however, Neves' operations become threatened once he gets Max Payne involved in one of his tasks under Victor Branco's employ.

He was voiced by Gil Cardoso.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes His Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Even before he founded the Crachá Preto gang, he was a captain of the UFE, and even then, he was known for his brutality and extrajudicial executions, and also killed two politicians.
  • After founding the militia, Neves, along with other members together with other gang members, began to commit various sorts of crimes
    • He killed at least 300 homeless people in 2008.
    • He and the Crachá Preto would massacre other gangs in the favelas before controlling the water, electricity and cable supplies to extort the citizens dwelling in the favelas.
    • In the years of 2010-2011, he and the militia were responsible for around 90 counts of murders against various politicians, judges, witnesses and community leaders, along with torturing two Spanish journalists.
    • He and the gang tortured their victims by castration, electric shock, and asphyxiation, as well as dismembering or burning their victims to frame favela gangsters.
    • His militia would bring their victims to the "Hotel Palácio Imperial," and harvest their organs to sell to wealthy and powerful individuals such as Victor Branco and the UFE.
  • According to Wilson Da Silva, when Rodrigo wanted to develop on some land, Victor sent Neves and the Crachá Preto to "clear it out".
  • He, on the orders of Victor Branco, prevented the rescue of Fabiana Branco from the captivity of the Commando Sombra by Max Payne and Raul Passos, killing many members of the Commando Sombra and taking the money for himself.
  • Although he ordered his assistant Milo Rego not to kill Max and Raul, stating that they were only paid to intercept the money, and not to kill them, this was done only out of pragmatism.
  • He organized an attack by his soldiers on the Branco building to kill Max, resulting in the deaths of an innocent secretary and a security guard.
  • When he meets Max on the roof of his building, he tells him that he is doing everything officially, and that Max is a completely useless bodyguard and hero.
  • When Max lost his balance and fell, he pointed a gun at him and started taunting him, and then was going to kill him until Raul Passos appeared in time and shot the villain.
  • Although he considered himself a vigilante and thought he was fighting crime, all this was pure nonsense because his victims were completely innocent beggars whom he abducted, tortured and killed only because of his dislike for them and a desire to get more money from the rich.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Apparently, he cares about his teammates, as when Max asked a dying solider on why the Crachá Preto attacked Rodrigo's office, he said it was because "[he] killed so many of [them]." He was also enraged to see his assistant Milo Rego killed.
