I watched Squid Game and it just seemed like a professional relationship to me in both cases. Oh-Il-Nam probably thought the vips were human garbage and it just fed into his ideology. And I don't remember him interacting with the Frontman outside of a strictly professional context. Keep in mind this character is extremely deceptive, so to demonstrate his care for someone is not that easy.
